You do not need a battery to run the camcorder off ac power supply. It is one or the other. The only time that both will be used is when you are charging the battery on the camcorder with the power off.
Finalize disc in camcorder while powering it with supplied ac charger/ adapter. Camcorder has option for that. You can not finalize disc in computer that was recorded on camcorder.
Does camcorder show good picture in playback and does not give you live view to record? or it does not power up? Your post is not clear about porblme with camcorder and please intimate exact model number of camera too.
