Advise use of self clean feature on kenmore self clean oven 30''

• Check warranty to make sure it has expired.
• Disconnect power for 30 seconds and see if oven will reset the electrical lock.

The following link describe for Kenmore several procedures to disengage the electrical lock securing the door.

It is unfortunate that during the self cleaning cycle the stress levels at the elevated temperature premature failure appears to occur.

How to Clear the Oven Lock Mechanism on Kenmore Stove

The F3 error is most likely the temperature sensor that protrudes into the oven near the top usually on the left. Don't be confused there can be two probes that enter the oven. One is the over temp like not to exceed type of switching device and the other is the actual sensor that maintains the temperature at the set point.

There is a procedure to replace this sensor from inside the oven. I have had only limited success doing this repair in ovens from the front. Newer ovens are equipped with a plug that is easier. In all cases ensure that the plug is pushed through away from the oven wall. In older ovens I have had to pull the built in ovens to accomplish the work from the back to ensure a good connection using wire nuts... The sensor in the second photo does not have a plug so small wire nuts that will fit through the back of the oven are used.


This second link is a suggestion that the use of the self clean feature is a concern, On two occasions I have had oven problems right after using the self clean cycle.

I'm sorry, but what is the question?

Ours have also stopped working (both top and bottom). Bought in 2003 so only 8 yrs old. Getting technician in to fix. Will post solution. Also whenever oven is heated up the display panel fades and is not visible (has been doing this for a couple of years)

No, that may be what cracked it in the first place...the self clean or self destruct feature will noly finish it off for you...
Before you go working too hard to get you oven to go into the self clean mode....check out this tip...

Probably a bad door lock solenoid. That is some kind of door lock problem. Trouble is they are not all the same. This training manual shows locations of model number. Perhaps if you post that I might can come up with a tech sheet and you would get a better answer. see page 4

Just use some easy off and do not use the self clean feature. Clean it the old fashioned way. Self clean ruins expensive electronics.

I continued a search and found a manual on line... simple process to turn on self-cleaning operation... close the door and set to "clean" ... timer on this model is automatic... runs for 3 1/2 hours.. fan continues for an additional 30 minutes ... open the door and the oven is clean. Thanks
