I have a Seiko Titanium Chronograph certified water resistant to 20 BAR. The movement # is 7T62-0BZ0. I recently had a jeweller put a new battery in the watch and it has not been working properly since. I took the watch back and the jeweller said that it had an electronics problem and would have to be repaired by Seiko. The time function will work for about 30 minutes when it is reset and then it stops. The stop watch function appears to work however the minute hand on the stop watch will not reset to zero it resets to the 2 minute mark and the stop watch second hand resets to 46 second mark. Any idea of what is wrong?

SEIKO KINETIC SQ 50 HAVE USE MY WATCH FOR 14 YRS

It is unlikely that the capacitor will have any charge on it so you should shake it gently to charge it up. You certainly can't do any harm by charging it, even if the capacitor did have any charge.

My seiko is keeping good time but the second hand jumps two seconds then hesitates for what seems to be a second then skips two seconds again

There are three solutions for this problem, contingent upon the model:

With both instances, this is a power saving / low charge / low battery feature of the timepiece.

1) Is your Seiko watch a Kinetic / Solar model? If so, your watch contains a capacitor. The capacitor may be bad, OR if you have not been wearing it on as regular a basis, wind the watch (Kinetic) vigorously for 5 minutes, and if the second hand returns to normal function, the capacitor is most likely fine. If is is a Solar model, expose it to sunlight for 4-6 hours or incandescent light for 24 hours and see if this resolves the problem.

2) Else: if this is a standard battery operated watch, take your watch to an authorized Seiko repair center, or Certified Master Horologist. Make sure that the Seiko Repair Center is using Seiko batteries, else make sure they are installing Energizer only - these two batteries will not leak in your movement. Avoid other batteries at all cost, many of them will leak and ruin your movement.

3). If these solutions do not work, and you have not had your watch serviced in the last 3 to 5 years, you need to service the movement. See the aforementioned parties to begin the process.

4) If your watch is water resistant, and/or you plan on wearing it in the water, make sure to have your watch water tested by the appropriate aforementioned professional to ensure it will withstand proper dynamic and static pressure at the appropriate depths.

Early 90's SEIKO 7N43 8A39 mechanical Omaha jewelers say junk - engraved as a gift from my wife - can it be repaired or replaced in this case?

The 7N43 movements are readily available for less than $25 and any jeweler can install them. I own the same watch myself and really like it but after 14 years the date wheel is slipping and its cheaper to replace the whole movement than fix it.
I'd try a different jeweler as obviously yours is trying to sell you a new watch!

For sure it is time to replace that old capacitor and replace it with the latest solution that uses a Lithium Ion battery. Find a good experienced repair person to do this for you. I do this daily and I am a Certified Master Horologist/watch repairman.. Ron at TimelyWatchRepair.com
