Have an IX1s Canon camcorder. Flashing red screen icon.
I have an XL1s Canon Camcorder. When it's turned on, it has a flashing red icon on the right-hand side mid center of the screen that is rather flat with a slash through it. What is this indicating?

It means a particular battery is low or out of the camera, which hold the date and time memory of your videos. don't worry it doesn't affect your any recording or playback of videos. I have one and is blinking from past one month. no issues at all.

I had the same problem with my ZR800. After lots of searching on the net I found out what the symbol indicates. It means that the little battery that holds the memory for the clock is weak. It's under a little cover behind the main battery compartment. I put in a new one that the flashing icon is gone. I put the battery I took out into another ZR800 and the icon started flashing on it. A simple solution that Canon should have posted in the manual.
The flashing "boat" in the middle of the viewfinder just means the button battery is dead. Camera will still work. It's the little pull-out light grey plastic thing that's next to the heel of your right hand when you're using the camera normally. You need a CR2025 cell.
Change the lithium battery for the clock. It is found on the bottom of the camera. It is usually a CR2016, you can find it at any where watch batteries are sold
I just fixed mine accidentally... Try this: with Camera on open tape deck, then manually press in the tape cartrige till it clicks in and you hear the tape gears turning then close the tape door last. email me if it works for any of you. [email protected]
