Here's a short summary of the steps to view the configuration. For lot's more details and other methods, refer to this online manual.
1. - Connect to router with computer using serial console cable
2. - Use Hyperterminal or other terminal program to communicate with the router
3. - Once you have access to the Command Line Interface, type in "display current-configuration" to view the configuration information text.
4. - Now you can copy and paste the configuration text to Word or Notepad to save or print.

Dont save configuration

Some routers when saving the configuration require you to stay on the page after clicking save, if you close or go to another page to quickly it stop the configuration save, stay on the same page after clicking save until the page refreshes.
Also make sure you are hardwired into the router not wireless, most newer routers do not allow access to the configuration using wireless and some allow you to see but not change the configuration wirelessly.

How to change software version of 3Com router from 1.20 ver to another latest version because it not support a lot of command for configuration.

Usually the software version of routers is called a firmware. You will need to download the latest frimware version from there website and upload it to your router through its configuration page.
You get to the configuration page through the routers ip address, usually its 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, you will need to type this into a web browser.

How to reset it?

Open your browser and enter the 3Com URL configuration address
http://192.168.1.1
Then go to the Menu Screen and select Reset to Factory Defaults.
When to change the rouer's wireless settings then you will also need to apply these changes to your wireless card in the computer so it can connect to the 3Com router.

Bought a replacement for a failed unit. Don't know how to enter the IP and other info to get the unit started. (3com 3c8201c)

If you donot have the default IP of the router, try setting an IP as 192.168.1.2 on your machine & access 192.168.1.1 (which is supposed to be the default IP of the router)

Hi, I have recently set up a network with a 3com 3CRWER200-75. The problem shows when i visit websites like for example www.amazon.com or any microsoft site. The router is new. My broadband connection is...

Hi,
This could have a number of causes. However, you could try adjusting your MTU settings, since this can cause problems with accessing msn and similar sites. You can do this from within the router user interface.
You may well have tried this already. If not, experiment gradually with reducing the MTU setting towards 1400 - see this link for a quick tutorial (though not your router model, I know).

For safety, of course, please back up the registry, or set a system restore point, before trying this out.
Other 'fixes' depend on your OS and security settings. However, since the problem does seem to be within your new router, you might find more information on the 3com knowledgebase.

Configure VPN

That 3Com really doesn't have a wahy of setting up a VPN.
As per the 3Com site it:
Support of VPN termination/initiation and passthrough allows secure connection to central office and/or secure access from remote workers.
So it will allow 3rd party VPN setups to pass through, but it doesn't have the ability to create one.
You might want to look into something like a Netgear Firewall

Problem with 3Com WL-542 wireless router

if you are using DSL you will need to consult your isp about proper router configuration... meaning the modem will have to be bridged and the router configured to authenticate for you. this avoids an issue called dual NAT in the U.S. dsl providers use PPPoE for authentication i am not sure which of the available options you will use in New Zealand, and how to configure the options for it. if you are using cable or some other type of connection this will not help :/
I hope this helps if not see if you can tell me what kind of isp you have
