TV not finding Digital Channels from Cable Box

I have a Time Warner HD digital cable box, and have the component cables (no HDMI port on TW box) connected from output on TW box to input on TV. When I go to correct video source, I get cable, but it is extremely blurry even the digital guide. I try to use the auto find for the digital channels, and it comes back saying that 0 were found. No channels are in HD at all.

I have the same problem with the same tv (brand new), but I DO have an HDMI output from the cable box. I connected the cable from the back of the box to the back of the tv and still no luck. Our cable is completely digital, but the tv states that it can't find any digital channels. This makes no sense. We receive nothing but digital channels. Please help!

LED241127FHD 24" tv was working fine via hdmi to my MacBook, virgin hd box and toshiba laptop until yesterday. When hdmi is plugged into either of the laptops the screen flickers then goes to no signal. With the virgin box the TV guide and menus will work but there will be no pictures when you choose a channel. It's like the actual video is not supported but the basic guides etc are. Does not make sense. Have tired 2 different hdmi cables.

I don't know where you're located but you may want to double check with Time Warner on the availibilty of an HD box. I have TWC with an HD tier package and have an HDMI out on the box that runs directly into HDMI on this TV. Hope that helps!

As far as "finding digital channels" on this TV, I'm also unable to do so. After skimming through some other AV forums I think I might have the answer you're looking for. From what I understand, this TV is designed to "search" for digital (or analog) channels when hooked up to an external antenna. I don't think it works when hooked up to a cable box with HDMI connection. Now I could very well be completely wrong about this, but for now, that is the best conclusion I've been able to come to. Hope that helps.

We have Comcast and we plugged the cable straight into our Bravia, searched for Digital Channels and it found 131. We actually get all the HD channels that we had using the box, plus a few more. It's worth a try.

7-27-11: Just purchased Sony Bravia 40BX420 - got HDMI cables - hooked directly from Time Warner cable box to back of TV - auto programming run multiple time and "0" channels found.
Disconnected cable from TW cable box and voila!.......Auto Programing worked! Substantial improvement in sound volume also! Great tip! Now to get rid of the box and save a few $ on our cable bill! :D

Bad picture

  1. Hello boss, here is d way to make best use of it.
step 1.Make sure ur LCD or Plasma HDTV has an HDMI port. Hopfuly u bought 1 with it, if not, you may be stuck using component cables. Not bad, but not he best. Component cables change d digital signal frm the cable box into an analog signal. This conversion allows for signal degradation. U want to keep the digital signal transmitted frm the cable company 2 go directly into ur HDTV. An HDMI cable will provide u wid this capability n with d clearest picture.
    2. Make sure ur cable box has an HDMI port. Most cable companies do not offer a cable box with an HDMI port on the initial install. You may need to upgrade by calling your cable company and asking if they have a cable box wid HDMI capability. Ask them 2 send u 1.
3.Purchase an HDMI cable. TIP - The longer d distance between the cable box n d HDTV, the better d quality HDMI cable. This is due to degradation of d digital signal over long distances, wiz could result in a poor quality picture. ne distance over sixteen feet should be compensated 4 by using a heavier gauge HDMI cable. Oh yea, don't get taken by buying the most expensive cables. From what I have read, companies are cashing in on this relatively new technologymag-glass_10x10.gif. I bought my "gold-plated" HDMI cables from an Ebay Store, "eforcity" for about a quarter of the price found at the local electronic store. Connect one end of your HDMI cable into the HDMI (out) port on the back of your cable box and connect the other end to the HDMI (in) port on the back of your HDTV.55
Read the instructions that came with ur new HDMI compatible cable box. These instructions will explain the download process the cable box needs to go through before use and the Setup Wizard that will program the cable box to send the correct picture format to your HDTV. If u did not get instructions, u can get them at the cable box manufacturers website. Scientific Atlanta's website: http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/new_cableboxes.ht64. Adjust video, audio, and screen settings to ur liking. The explanation for these settings can be found in ur HDTV's user's manual.75.Push ur "source" button on ur remote control or HDTV n select HDMI. Tune to a Hi-Def channel. Most Hi-Def channels r in the 700 channel range. Check cable company listings 4 d specific channels.
  2. Have a nice time!!

Can't get HD channels selected on tv. Tried auto search with HDTV port connected and the menu selected to HDTV

Hello, the HDTV input is what you would use if you were not using a cable box.
You should connect your cable from the wall to coaxial input on the cable box, and connect an hdmi cable from the hdmi output on the cable box to the hdmi 1 input on your tv and then switch the tv to that input.

How to eliminate error screen:"your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source."

"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"

Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.

I was given this tv I need to connect cable

your t.v will hook up directly to cable. if you are asking how to hook to a digital box then you can hook it up the same as you had it hooked on your previous t.v. but if you want to get high def channels then you are going to have to take your digital box back to Time Warner and swap it for a high def digital box. or you can just call Time Warner and have a technician go to your house and swap/ hook things up for you. Hope this helps you.

Sony bravia 40" hd lcd gets picture but no sound from cable box

You will have to go into the settings of the hd box by pressing the settings button twice and then scroll down to "audio digital out". chances are that it is set to Dolby Digital. If you right arrow over you can then set it to HDMI. this should bring your volume back. Hope this helps.

I have Time Warner cable. I just bought a new Sony LCD HD tv and the sound and the video are out of sync on some channels - HD and non HD I am using a HDMI cable. Any solutions that you know of?

Yes there is a simple solution. First, for some reason., Time Warner cable boxes have SERIOUS HDMI issues, including no pic, intermittent pic and sound and the one that you are having. The easy fix is to hook the TV to the cable box using the component connections instead of the HDMI. Normally I would suggest getting the cable box replaced, but I have seen customers exchange cable boxes 3 or 4 times and still have the problem or have a new problem. Use the component connections and be sure to let me know if this works. If it does, be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

I purchased a SANYO-DP46848 42"HDTV. I have a Cable box and my cable provider (Time Warner Cable) provides free HD Channels. However.... I CANNOT PICKUP ANY HD CHANNELS ON THE NEW TV. WHY???...

I just got the same exact one, when it searches automatically the first time it doesn't look for digital channels. go to Menu>manual channel search>cable. it will look for all possible signals and will take forever probably. the free digital channels will take several seconds to switch channel to channel, but they're there! They will show up on your screen as "DC 91-2" or similar. you can switch back to regular cable channels with the input button, you just cycle through all the inputs. hope that helps.

HD cable question

It sounds like you dont have the right HD box. When connecting HD you will use an HDMI cable or a component cable consisting of 5 cable total 3 for video two for audio. Coax cable is not used to connect HD to your TV / Monitor.
