A piece of paper got stuck while feeding from the rear; I pulled it out backwards and now have the "paper jam" error message. I turn it off and on again, it feeds another piece through with no problem, but then the error message comes up again. There is no paper jam and even if I don't want to print, I can't even use it as a scanner. I have the same problem. Very frustrating! There is no paper in the machine but I keep getting the message. Have tried everything I know. I really need to use my scanner.I have the same problem. I have the same problem as well. There is absolutely no paper in the machine but I keep getting the message. I run a small company and really need to use my scanner and copier. A Canon client serviceman told me that my mp600 needs repairment and I should bring it back to the shop where I bought the machine. Don't know yet what to do, because repairment might be more expensive than the purchase of a new one.

I also have the same problem. There was a paper jam but all of the paper has been removed. However, the printer keeps giving the same error message - Error: paper output slot- the paper is jammed. Clear the paper and press OK. Have done this - checked all openings and turned printer off and on, and off at the wall and on. Nothing works.I also have the same problem. I have the exact same problem and have no idea how to fix. Same problem it says I have a paper jam but there is no paper to be found. Contacted Canon they tell me I can either buy a new printer from them at a discount or pay to have it repaired at a service center. The printer is 6 months out of warrenty. I bought it about 1-1/2 years ago. My old Lexmark lasted 5 years. I will not spend money to get it repaired nor will I buy any Canon products agian. Time to post a rant on Craigs list. This product is of poor quality and I would not suggest it to anyone. P.S. I have followed all the steps that tech support has suggested.

I have the same probelm - printer jam error with no paper jammed (was able to get the paper out in one piece). Just got off the phone with cannon and since I purchased the printer 13 months ago it is out of warranty and I have to take it to a service center. She said the initial paper jam might have tripped a sensor.

I just had the same problem, tried everything and resigned myself to buying a new one.
I was about to throw the thing when I saw the Card backing of an A4 Pad.
I thought I have nothing to lose so forced this through the machine and Bingo. It cured it.
I also had a phantom paper jam in my MP 600. I took an A4 piece of firm cardboard, pushed it through the feed switch at the back so it was half way through and left it sit there while I turned the printer off then on. It spat the cardboard out and all was fine again!
Don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. Canon MP160
My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print. Someone replied to my problem, i tried it and it fixed 1st time. Also seems to of worked for others
Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving push it through! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now
I had the same problem with the printer paper jam error message. I did what dolphinfin suggested and it cleared my problem after two hours of trying everything else. Thank you!
Dolphinfin, you are right! My MP600 had the same problem. I noticed two white nylon rollers in the paper feed path were not flush with the rest; I jammed a business card in there, and an obstacle was dislodged. One or two printing attempts later, with a pair of needlenose pliers, I'd pulled out a missing pen cartridge that had fallen in there.
I see nothing wrong with the MP600; It's always been reliable, except when my messy office results in junk falling into the paper feed path.
Dolphinfin, it worked! Of course you need to check all the other possibilities. I image if a pin or paper clip fell in, this "last ditch effort" would have croaked the printer forever! As it is, I am a happy camper. Thanks-- when all else fails, you the man!
I had the same problem, but I opened a Word document, clicked print, and clicked "ok" on the scroll wheel quickly. It went through like a reset or something and then it printed the word doc.
Canon replaced my printer but this is a reocurring problem, I am now on my 3rd printer which also has a paper jam problem. I am still uinable to clear a non existant paper jam.
I've tried the A4 card stock solution. It worked to have the card stock in place and then turn the printer on and off. The card stock fed through (I've fed it through multiple times), but the error message is still there.
It appears that there is no solution to a phantom jam- is this correct?

Put off the machine and gradually remove the paper. If any piece of the paper is cut in the process, it must be removed else the printer would continue reading paper jam. Thanks.
Fixed the problem by running two sheets of heavy card stock
through at the same time. With the machine off, positioned the two
sheets in the feeder so that they would be pulled in when the printer
was turned on. When turned on the printer, it drew the two sheets
through and this reset the paper sensor. Previously found
that only one sheet at a time did't work. Good luck!
Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by
holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the
paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling
out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do
this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any
obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or
ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the
printer back on.
If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
see alternative if the problem is still not solved.
alternative :
Load
a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume
button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the
printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
clear the jam paper
1) pull slowlly the jam paper back as possible as you can, usually the jam paper could be broken as pulling
2) open the cartridge area find the paper pull slowlly forword paper direction as possible as you can and try to take out any pieces paper behide the cartridge (between paper input roller and ink cartridge
This is an awesome printer. Did you know it can duplex (print on both sides of the paper) automatically? The jam "could" be in the duplexer on the back or, the duplexer unit isn't locked into place.
Unplug the printer and open the rear door, check for visible paper jam, remove, close door.
There's also access to the feed mechanism from the bottom of the printer.
Unplug printer.
(1) Remove the Cassette. (paper tray on bottom of printer)
If the paper is loaded in the Auto Sheet Feeder (on back of printer),
remove the paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder and close the Paper Support.
(2) Stand the machine with the
left side down.
(3) Slowly pull the jammed paper
out while pulling the green cover toward you.
Caution
Set the machine back to its original position
immediately after removing the jammed paper.
(4) If any paper is sticking out
of the Cassette, reload the paper in the Cassette.
Reload paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder, if necessary.
(5) Insert the Cassette into the
machine.
(6) Press the OK button on the machine.
