Need help w/my DVD player

I just recived a new DVD player (Durabrand Progressive Scan which plays DVDs, MP3 CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, audio CDs)and when I try to watch some of my newer movies the quality is distorted as if I was trying to copy the movie. These newer movies are "dual layer" such as Shaft, Family Guy, Star Wars, etc... it won't play, but I can watch Anchorman, Friends, and Hitch. I have tried to play it on my Playstation 2 as well (the small version) and it does the same thing. I am not sure what to do or how to find a DVD player that can play these types of movies.

My Insignia NS-WBRDVD2 will not play the HD DVD-s...why

This Blu-ray player will not read HD (high density) DVDs. The format is not the same as a blu-ray. You would need an HD DVD player. (if you can find one - they are rare.) If you are having trouble reading specific Blu-ray discs, you should check if there is a firmware update for the unit on the Insignia site. Start at http://insigniaproducts.com/ and look for downloads for the NS-WBRDVD2.

The NS-WBRDVD2 reads Blu-rays, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-R, CDDA (audio CDs), CD-RW, MP3, MPEG4, JPEG. Discs burned on DVD recorders/computers must be finalized to be played on the unit.

The manual for the unit is available from Insignia here: http://insigniaproducts.com/cms/documents/NS-WBRDVD2-WBRDVD2-CA_10-0745_WEB_ENG_V4_Final%20lr.pdf .

    I hope this helps.
