I am buying a used eMachines T5082 with an Intel 3.0 HT 533Mhs FSB Prosessor, but an 800 Mhz Bus on the Motherboard. I wish to upgrade to an Intel 600 series 3.8 Ghz 800Mhz FSB CPU although i do not know which one to use & matching Memory. I was told to use DDR2 SDRAM 800 Mhz PC2 6400 for the Memory. Could you tell me if this will work alright & which Pentium 4 600 series 3.8Hhz with Hyper threading technology to use ? I will be using my Vista Home Premium O/S in this T5082. I have seached everywhere but can't seem to find this info. I truely appreciate your help on this matter. Will-

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

You are basically limited to what was optional on the model. So you can only upgrade to one of the following cpus:

The motherboard chipset of the Dell Dimension 2300 Desktop PC, will not support a processor with an 800MHz Front Side Bus frequency rate.

Only Intel Pentium 4's that use a Socket 478, 1.75 Volts, and a maximum of a 400MHz FSB.

The Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz processor has an 800MHz FSB, (As you have already stated), and uses 1.475 to 1.55 Volts.

The motherboard chipset for that Dell Dimension 2300, is an Intel 845GL.

Not a good outcome, sorry. Just stating the facts.

I've found an Asus P4SD i865GV online:

It seems to have the same CPU socket, FSB and RAM types, and the chipset is almost the same model. I'd say this would work.

If you can't get that, just make sure to get a motherboard with the following qualities:

Front side bus (FSB): 800, 533, and 400 MHz
RAM type: Dual Channel DDR 400 MHz (PC3200), 333 MHz (PC2700), and 266 MHz (PC2100).
CPU socket: 478

You can update to a dual core since your using a 775 socket just make sure the dual core is also 775 socket which there are quite a few. and of course make sure its intel. and the FSB is 800 mhz

According to the spec's this motherboard has FSB speeds of 800+3.

pay close attention when getting your cpu if it has a 533 front side bus and is faster than 2.63 then the actual cpu speed will end up slower (you will see something like 2.1ghz) if it comes on due to multiplier limitations
