Relay clicking, not cooling either side

Fridge started clicking a couple of days ago, noticed that it maybe wasn't cooling as well as it should be. today confirmed that it was warming up so pulled all of the food out and started troubleshooting. relay on the main pcb is clicking, compressor not coming on. stops clicking if you press the ice/water dispenser lever. compressor comes on if I disconnect the lower middle connector from the upper portion of the pcb, but looks like the fans aren't working inside the fridge to circulate air.

looking inside the freezer when relay clicks, the fan bumps a little but doesn't start spinning.

front panel water doesn't work either, but that's small potatoes if the whole fridge is borked.

clicking in back of refrigerator fan will not come on. water and ice despinser

will not dispense and light goes dim. sounds like hotpoint has a continueing issue from what i have read. Any advice or comments?

My hotpoint HSS25GFP started not making water, but the icemaker was fine. Then it started clicking, food was starting to warm up. I noticed the fan would bump with each click, but not kick on. I called a local appliance tech who came out and said it was the "motherboard". The piece is being ordered on Monday February 18,2008. I was given an estimate price of $450.00 and up. The frige is only three years old.

Same problem. Started with the ice & water dispenser not working, front lights would dim, then fridge started clicking. Might have started after a momentary power drop (less than a second, not long enough for clocks to reset). At first could 'reset' by turning fridge off and back on, now it just clicks, from relay on 'motherboard.'

My freezer stopped freezing. I unplugged, cleaned it and tried again. Both red and green lights are on, the motor runs ... still not working.

clicking from front pcb changed front and rear pcbs now compresser runs but is not cooling

  • Anonymous Mar 31, 2014

Lights are one, fan inside fridge is running. Condenser fan wasn't running (Unknown duration), but is now with a little oil. But otherwise can't hear the compressor start up and don't hear any clicking that relays or solenoids usually make.

My dad opened the freezer pannel in the back of freezer inside the fridge and when it clicks we hand spin the cooling fan right on the click and it picks up and runs i believe this could be a result from iether a magnet from cooling fan casing may be crack'd or somthing to do with the bushings

First of all Give me model# and Serial#.
you will most likely have to replace main control board and evaporator fan motor. They have had a service bulletin out on this problem.

FRS26R4CB0-Freezer not freezing and Fridge not getting Cool

Hi Candi,

I don't know this model but most friges are the same,
Check on the bottom back, there should be a radiator with a small fan
installed.

If the fan is not working this maybe your problem,
It is not colling the gas.

You also may have a gas leak or the gas compressor is not working
or starting to work because of a faulty capcacitor.

There are only a couple of relays that it could be. One for the fuel pump and one for the computer. It they aren't expensive, I would replace both. If they are expensive, I would put a voltmeter on the fuel pump positive side to see if the power is cutting out. If that is ok, then I would do the same to the computer. The wiring diagrams are available on autozone.com.

Remove the bottom front panel of the fridge and locate the defrost timer. This is a small circular motor with a screw slot in the center. Turn the slot CLOCKWISE ONLY and listen for a click. As soon as you hear the click stop, wait about five minutes and feel the walls of the freezer they should now be cold.If this happens again the timer will need to be replaced. Thank you, Dana

Fridge not cooling compressor works intermitently

If the compressor starts and runs for a few seconds it could be the relay. Or it could be the compressor itself has failed. When a compressor starts and runs for a short period it is possible that the relay contacts are arced together which would have both the start and run winding in the motor engaged at the same time for more than 3 seconds. This would result in the compressor tripping out on the thermal overload. It depends on what type of relay your compressor has. If it is a thermal relay, unplugging the refrigerator for about 15 minutes would allow the relay to cool off and reset.
