Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
PROBLEM: USB Devices (Both internal and external) work intermittently.
DISCUSSION: Issue is caused by Windows power management disabling the USB Root Hub to save power (This option is on BY DEFAULT in all Windows installations)
RESOLUTION: Open Device Manager, scroll down to the USB Root Hubs Listings (There may be as few as two most I've seen is 7) Right click each hub, select Properties on the drop down menu, then click the POWER MANAGEMENT tab. There you will find a check box to allow windows to turn off this device to save power. Uncheck the box and close the window, repeat on remaining USB Root Hubs, then reboot.
This will resolve most intermittent USB device issues.
