Recently, groups of "cycling" black horizontal lines appear on the screen on all inputs. There is about a centimeter of space between each group of horizontal lines. The lines go from barely noticeable to obvious and back in a continuous cycle, and seem to move up the screen, then become momentarily stationary, move down the screen, and finally back up again. At first I thought it was some sort of outside interference, but now I believe it is some sort of "scanning" issue.

Sounds as if you have a bad capacitor in the horizontal deflection or video circuitry. You can spot a bad capacitor in circuit with a ESR meter.Hope this helps.

Object
The object of Gardner is to group like items together to get the highest score possible. You should swap the vegetables that appear on the board to make them form groups of 5 or more plants. A group consists of vertically and horizontally adjacent vegetables. (The plants that are diagonally adjacent aren't considered neighbors).
When a group is formed, you can "gather" it to the basket, freeing space for new plants and getting points. The aim of the game is to get as many points as possible before the board is full.
Controls
The game is controlled using the mouse only.
Left mouse button -used to swap items. Click the first item you want to swap (you'll see it's selected), then the second one. If you wish to cancel swapping, click the item again and it will be deselected.
Right mouse button -used to group items. In this case to gather plants and free up space to continue the game.
Board Menu
Four options included in the menu are:
1) New Game - starts a new game
2) Sound - turns game sound on or off
3) Exit - exits the current game
4) Continue - closes the menu and continues the game
More than likely you will need to replace the display screen. Those lines are a symptom of the LCD screen going bad. If you are still under warranty, see if you can get it replaced
If not, a new LCD screen runs about 15 dollars shipped from eBay and is pretty easy to replace.

It sounds like you may need to re-adjust your G-2 controls, located at front, remove front panels. Look for small block with screen /focus controls on item, first turn color down, reset brightness, contrast controls. Adjust until lines are at min. and picture is a good black and white (grays). I called a local tv repair shop he said that he'd have the see the unit to give an exact price but their labor rates were from $79.95-$179.95 + parts =(
I had the same problem with our VS-55705 Mitsubishi. It seemed to me that this was a problem of heat.
I unplugged the TV and then took the cover off of the back of the it. I then used canned air to blow off the collection of dust from the components. Then I vacuumed as close to everything as I could without touching any of the components. I then used glass cleaner to clean up the surface of the three bulbs.
I plugged in the TV and it has worked perfect ever since. I haven't put the rear cover back on it yet. That could have been all that I needed to do to fix it. I'm too busy enjoying a nice picture to try putting it back on. Cleaning the bulbs really helped the quality of the picture.
