Just got a Canon 7D. Attached my 430EX to the hot shoe and it won't fire. Tried new batteries and checked the contacts, and it still won't work. Put th 430EX back onto my Rebel XTI, where it has always...

Make sure you using flash grade batteries and not rechargables. try energiser ultra or litiums or duracelll plus but nothing else. if the charge light is not coming up then most likely batteries. I would take it to your local camera shot and test your 7d with one of thier 430 just to make sure the hotshoe didnt short out the flashgun

Speedlite 430ex, pilot light on, flashes when I hit the pilot, but will never fire when taking a picture....the "ready" light below the red pilot light never turns on

Typically, it means your batteries are low but I am sure that you know that already.
The next cause is a mechanical failure. The flash has capacitors that **** up the battery power until they have a full charge and the trigger the ready light. Therefore, if your batteries are good then it is likely that the capacitors are disconnected or have failed. Eitherway, you will most likely have to send it out to a Canon service center. You can find service centers at www.canonusa.com.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Canon 50D doesn't recognize new Speedlite 430EX II. Flash power is on and pilot releases flash.

Check the contacts on both the camer and the lens. I usually clean mine with methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol. I have to do this every 3 months or so as dirt or even oils from your hands can stop the contacts from working properly.

Trigger a Speedlite 430EX II with a studio flash

  1. Make sure the trigger you are using is compatible with digital flashes.
  2. isolate the smaller contact so they do not "short out" on the trigger.
  3. make sure the trigger is working and will fire other flashes

The flash won't fire, and the pilot light won't come on. I've tried new batteries, and that doesn't work. The little LCD screen does have power. I'm wondering if I blew the strobe. Thanks!

Canon 430EX Flash

I have a 430ex and S5, I don't think the zoom head will move without being mounted on a camera.

If the flash test fires ok, then it should be fine.
