We have black lines running along the bottom edge of a letter sized paper (along the left edge of an 11x17 inch page). These are not smudge lines - there are about 80 mechanically perfect hairline rules, perfectly straight and spaced, running from the edge of that page (outside the print margin) to about 1" into the page. This occurs on ALL printed pages, such as the printer's own configuration page, or a document from my computer.
Any clues?
If the problem re-appears and updating the firmware (from office.xerox.com) does not help you are most likely looking at a replacement processor board.
1 of 3 things I can think of off top of my head.
Since they are straight, I would suspect the transfer unit.
If it were just one color it would be that imaging unit.
Unlikely the fuser.
It doesn't sound line an issue called bar coding ,where the machine prints random lines. That would be a software issue.
Take the transfer unit out and inspect it for the marks.
I am assuming the streaks are on all colors correct?
If it isn't on the transfer belt, and on all colors check the fuser and see if its latched.
i misread, Since they are black. check the black imaging unit.
One of two other things I can think of.
1 There is some toner or some other item on the laser window.
2 or you have a bad board or software corruption.
Spots on the laser window seems to make more sense.
Yeah there is a problem called Bar Coding and sounds like thats what you had.
May need to update to the newest firwware level. There is the firmware software to update your printer on Xerox.com

Appreciate the fast response. The transfer unit looks fine.
The lines are "perfect" - they are perfectly spaced, perfectly straight, and *exactly* 1 inch wide from the edge of the paper. They do not appear to the be kind of thing that would result from a defect in the drums or units, which often results in random spacing, etc. These lines almost look like deliberate design elements.
Well, again, these lines are perfect. There are about 80 lines, all within the inch wide space, perfectly spaced apart from each other. The only way this is a physical thing like spots is if something like a comb scraped the laser. I would be leaning toward software corruption, however... I turned off the machine last night. Came in this morning and the problem has completely disappeared from all pages, regardless of tray, size of paper or program.
So it must have been software corruption, bad driver, something like that.
Thanks anyway - appreciate the rapid response!
In my printed sheets a one inch white band is occurring on all of the pages
