I bought a new handset and can't get it to register with the base.

I have a new (3rd) handset for my Panasonic KX-TG5632 phone. The handset is charged and I followed the instructions for registering it with the base. The handset displayed "registering handset" after I pushed all the buttons as instructed but then displayed "Error!!" and did not register. I tried this twice with the same result.

  • laurahwells Dec 02, 2009

The base system I have allows up to handsets. The number on the bottom of the handset I just bought is KX-TGA542M. My other 2 handsets are KX-TGA560M. When I ordered this model number online I received the 542M hanset. It looks exactly the same except two of the buttons have different labels. Could this be the problem? Handset incompatibility?

  • laurahwells Dec 02, 2009

The base is not near any appliances other than the refrigerator. The base unit is attached to the wall and it is not practical to move it.

I have read the reasons for the Error!! display in the manual but I don not believe these are the reasons the handset won't register.

Do you have any other ideas?

  • laurahwells Dec 02, 2009

Yes, I read these explanations in the manual, too. However my base is not near any appliances other than the refrigerator and no one tried to page from another handset. I do not believe either of these are the reason the handset won't register. Do you have any other ideas besides what is in the manual?

Hi,

What Message you are Getting? If you are getting " Searching For Base " Message, the handset is trying to find its paired base unit. Sometimes you need to sit the handset into the base unit for it to register itself back with the base then there is nothing you can key into the handset to fix this.If you have tried all this and it still can't see the base unit then either the base unit isn't the paired match for the handset or the base unit or handset has a fault. Take both ends in for repair.

Have you got wireless broadband? The wireless modems can interfere with 2.4Ghz phones, try switching off the modem to confirm.

Otherwise,

To register a handset Place the handset in its charger (connected to a power outlet A / C Mains.)

check the phone line is a good connection too.Press FIND HNDST for 4 SECONDS if ON BASE

does not appear on the screen of the phone after a few seconds,

lift up handset and place in the charger again. and try it again please.Failing that,

On the main telephone base,Press and hold INT/FIND HANDSET key for four seconds.Release INT/FIND HANDSET key when IN USE light is on.

The After about 10 seconds the handset will emit a tone and the handset will be assigned the lowest extension number not previously assigned to another system (1-4) when successfully registered.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 if handset is not registered within two minutes.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi,

You get Error!! on your display due to the following reasons:

1) The handset’s registration has failed. If you use the handset near to some other cordless base station or if you use it near some electrical appliances, you get this error,

To solve this error, Move the handset and base unit away from all electrical appliances or other base unit and try again.
2) Another reason by which you get Error!! on your display is if another handset user tried to send phonebook items to you but there was an error. Have the other handset user re-send the items to you.

To resend the item from the other unit,
Press Menu-> # 2
Press UP and DOWN and select the desired handset and press SEND,
When you hear a long BEEP press OFF..

The above two things are the main reason for getting ERROR!! message, any of the solution should solve your issue,
Please accept this solution if it works, else leave me comment we will solve your issue.

I bought a base and one extension phone - no problem - bought another extension phone and it will not register

The new phone must fit into the base cradle for registering to even be attempted. You gave no model numbers, it is likely your newest handset is not compatible with the rest of your system... but we can sometimes "cheat". If the new handset is displaying "To register, place on base..." but it simply does not fit -- try removing the battery cover and see if wiggling the handset will allow the "charging" lamp to come on: then wait to see if it will register. You can find the base model number on a small sticker on the bottom of the base, the handset model numbers are on stickers under the battery.

Can't seem to deregister the used HS I bought on Ebay since I don't have it's base.

1. To de-register the orphaned handsets from their old base:
When the orphaned handset says "Connecting..." or "Out of..."
enter *331734 [menu]
and it will soon beep and display "Not registered"

2. To register the new handset to your base:
press the "Handset Locator" button on the base and hold
it until the "in use" light comes on ( ~ 4 seconds ),
then release the button and set the new handset into
the base phone cradle. After ~ 30 seconds it will beep
and display "Handset #" (next in sequence).

3: Note: the base handles a maximum of 12 handsets.

If your system was fully populated ( ie, a handset is
already # 12 ) you will have to clear all the handsets
from the base and re-register them all in sequence.
( it is the only way to 'rescue' the places occupied
by the lost handsets ).

To clear the base of all registrations:

1. Press and hold the the "Handset Locator" button
until the "in use" light lights and then starts to blink
( ~ 10 seconds ), release the button --
then press it again briefly while the "in use" light
is still blinking.

2. The base will beep and all handsets that were registered
will display "Not Registered"

3. Follow the instructions above for each handset
in turn to re-register them:
press "Handset Locator" ~ 4sec ( in-use light on ),
set handset into the base cradle, etc.

The manual is available from: www.manualslib.com
but does not fully describe these procedures.

Good luck !

Base el5200 will not reconize new hand set

To deregister the new handsets from their old bases and re-register
them to your base, try this for each new handset...

1. When the new handset says "Connecting..." and goes nowhere
else, enter *331734 [menu] and it will soon beep and display
"Not registered"

2. To register the new handset to your base: on the base press
the "Handset Locator" button and hold it until the "in use" light
comes on ( ~ 4 seconds ), then release the button and set the
new handset into the base phone cradle. After ~ 30 seconds
it will beep and display its "Handset #" (next in sequence).

3: Note: the base has a limit to how many handsets it can handle,
I believe it is five handsets maximum for the EL52300.

If your system was fully populated ( ie, a handset is already # 5 )
you will have to clear all the handsets from the base and
re-register them in sequence ( it is the only way to 'rescue' the
places occupied by the lost handsets ).

To clear the base of all registrations:

1. Press and hold the the "Handset Locator" button until the
"in use" light lights and then starts to blink ( ~ 10 seconds ),
release the button -- then press it again briefly while the "in use"
light is still blinking.

NEED TO DEREGISTER LOST HANDSET

The "END" and "#" key combination can be used for several purposes:

1) If wanting to use an ALREADY REGISTERED HANDSET on an alternate base, and if if the INITIAL BASE isn't available to deregister the handset:

1a) Press "END" + "#" until it for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
1b) Choose the "Base Unavailable" option
1c) That'll deregister the CURRENT HANDSET so that it can be re-registered on ANY base.

2) If a BASE has a handset registered to it which you no longer want registered but the registered handset is missing or broken:

2a) Grab another WORKING handset which is properly REGISTERED to the BASE in question
2b) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
2c) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option
2d) Pick the REGISTERED HANDSET # to de-register. (Every other registered handset EXCEPT THE ONE YOU'RE ON will appear in the list!)

Can I use handsets from another DCT 748 unit to expand my DCT 748

Short answer:
No. This model of phone can only support 4 handsets. If you need more than that, you will need to have a second base unit.

Detailed answer:
One of my handsets went bad, and I just bought complete DCT748-4 package from a seller on eBay for a very good price. This set was used, but in very good condition. I didn't need the whole set - just one handset - but like I said, it was a good price. Anyway, I began by telling my old base unit to de-register handset #2 (the failed unit). However, I then found that I could not register the "new" handset with my old base unit because it was already registered to the "new" base unit. So, I first had to apply power to the "new" base unit and de-register the handsets. Then, I placed one of the "new" handsets onto my old base unit, and it said "Handset Registering ..." and registered just fine. Just for the fun of it, I placed one of the other spare handsets into my old base unit. It said "Hanset Registering ..." but then it beeped and said "Registration Failed." This is because I already had 4 handsets registered to my base, and the base can not handle a fifth handset.

Adding a new handset

You need to register the new handset with the base.
In Global settings De-register the new handset then place it on the main base unit connected. It should then register.

Programming old handsets to a new base

Cancel the old handsets registration at the previous base unit if desired.
For additional handsets, you must register each of them at the new base unit. Only one handset can be registered at a time. A handset will be assigned anextension number at registration.

Make sure the base unit and the other handsets are not being used. Program the same way as the extra handset you bought.

Registration must be completed within 1 minute.

I cannot register the handsets to the new base station I had an 8100-2 base that quit working. I bought a new 8100-1 base. Can I change the MAC ID on the phones so they will accept the new base station?

Hi,

If you cannot register the handset then here are some possible causes and solutions for them.

Cause 1:The handset and the base station were not prepared for registration.
Solution: Unplug and then plug in the power adapter.

Cause2:The handset or the base station has not been entered into registration mode.
Solution: See User Manual for correct registration of base station and handset.

Cause3:The base station is registered full.
Solution: Press [Page Key] on the base station to page the registered handsets, then perform the deregistration operation. Finally, register the handset you want to use.

Here is few more of additional info. if you want:

Register the Handset to the Base Step 1:
Place the accessory handset in the base station of the system. For some simple systems this may be all you need to do to register the new handset. If so, the LCD screen will read "Registration Complete."
Step 2:
Press the "menu" button on the base station, scroll down to "register handset" and press "ok."
Step 3:
Press and hold either "#" or "OK" (depending on the brand) on your handset until your hear the indicator tone. At this time the LCD should confirm the handset is registered.
Reset Handsets with the Base Step 1:
Clear the registration information from the base if you want to register your handset to a new base.
Step 2:
Hold [] and [#] down on the base for a minimum of 5 seconds or until the "System Reset" menu appears.
Step 3:
Choose the "deregister" option from the menu and scroll down to the handset you wish to remove.
Step 4:
Press "OK" to de-register the correct handset. Press "yes" when you are asked if you are sure, and wait for the confirmation tone.
Reset Handsets without the Base Step 1:
Hold [] and [#] down on the phone for a minimum of 5 seconds until the "System Reset" menu appears.
Step 2:
Choose the "base unavailable" menu, select "yes" and press the "OK" button.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.
