Install screen and drive won't boot up anymore

Hi, I was hoping you guys could help solve my problem. Okay, I have both a PC and a MAC. I originally got the external hard drive so that I can store all my photos and videos from my PC on to it, because the PC was getting too full. Everything was working fine. Then, I decided to use my external hard drive to store and transfer data from my MAC to PC and PC to MAC. When I first connected the external hdd to my MAC I had access to the copies of files that I had saved from my PC on to the external hdd, but I was not able to copy my files from my MAC to the external hdd. So, I decided to install the Maxtor manager thingy from the external hdd to my MAC, hoping that I will be able to save my files from my MAC to the external hdd. I found out that it worked, but I noticed that my previously saved photos and videos from my PC were deleted from the external hdd.

Now, when I plug my external hdd into my PC the install screen won't boot up anymore. The drive won't even pop up on the My Computer screen. It doesn't seem to be working for my PC anymore, but now it works for my MAC.

I need to know if I can get my external hard drive to work for my PC again. If so please let me know how I can fix it. If not, then please let me know that the external drive will only be good for my MAC. Thank you.

Hi Doug,

The problem is that mac has a diffrent 0perating system to a pc the thing you doing by switching from mac to pc the external hard drive is conflicting with one another to make your external driver to work on your pc follow these steps. go into control panal, system, hardware, device manager, universal serial bus controllers, drivers then update drivers that should reconise your mass storage driver.

Boot Problem in my ASUS Eee PC 900 netbook

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

How do you resest pram

I would try starting the machine up in single user mode you do this by booting your machine up and then immediately press and hold the command (Apple) key and the s key. If you do not know how to reboot press down the command-control-power key at the same time.

Once you get white text appearing on a black background at the command line prompt type /sbin/fsck -fy then press return. The machine will then go through some testing and then hopefully it will tell you that your hard drive is okay. If it says that the file system has been modified run the comand again i.e. /sbin/fsck -fy When the fsck command reports that your hard drive is okay type reboot at the prompt and then press return. Hopefully your computer will boot up okay after this.

My PowerBook G4 does not recognize internal hard drive. when i boot without cd it will not boot and i will see a question mark on the screen and a small icon that represent mac os. i have Mac OS X 10.3...

If you plugged this into a PC and formatted it you probably formatted it with NTFS or another Microsoft file format. This will not be recognized by a Mac. You will need to pop the hard drive back into your Mac and boot to the installation CD. From here you will need to go into disk utility and reformat the drive with a GUID Mac Extended format partition. If you open disk utility and the drive doesn't show up you probably have an issue with the drive controller on the logic board.

I hope this helps! If this did help you, please give a thumbs up!

I recently purchase a emac for my daughter, it's

Hi, unfortunately not every accessory that you can use for windows based pc's is good for Mac platform. This is why when you click on Autorun.exe the Mac won't install anything and won't work.
You should check if the device you want to use is Mac compatible. If you don't have the original package you should go to producers website and search for your device compatibility list.
If your device is not designed for Mac paltform you have to buy another device Mac compatible.

Mac won't boot up. it spins and spins but never finished booting. it started after the mac accidentally lost power after a startup, before it was done booting. how can i bypass this and get to...

Two possible things are wrong either your hard drive has gone or your system has corrupted.

If your system is corrupted put your instal disk in start it up holding down the c key. Once it has started check that the hard drive exists by go to the menu bar and selecting the disk utility. If the hard drive shows it means that it is okay so run the disk utility check drive and then run the repair permissions. Then try restarting, if it works then you are back up and running again. If the drive shows up and you restart and the same thing shows up, you will need to reinstal your system. You do this by starting up with the instal disk holding down the c key and run the instal script. To keep your hard drive contents your will need to use the preserve users instal.

If your hard drive does not show up the hard drive is probably a gonner and you will have to purchase a new hard drive and then instal a fresh system.

Hope this helps

My macbook wont boot completely....stuck on the apple with spinning dial screen...tried taking out battery...holding power button...starting with just the adapter....what else can I try...? Irecently...

You may have a costly problem on your hand, but it's not like you have to buy a new Mac. Because you can't get past the Apple Boot screen, the hard drive has to be removed and connected to another pc via a USB IDE/SATA adapter. Back up your info and reformat the hard drive. Replace the drive into the Mac and do a complete install of the Mac OS you have. Hopefully if you have a power pc mac, you have kept your discs; you will need them to a fresh install. Hopefully it's not your hard drive totally say bye bye to all your info, unless you have $1200 - $2400 to invest in a Data Recovery company. Good Luck

Hi i'm selling my lap top (MACBOOK) and would like to erase everything in the computer before it goes out. HOW DO I DO THAT? THANK YOU

hello, they guy that posted above me suggested to reinstall Mac OS X. that obviously only works if you have the original disc. but if you dont, what you could do is to make a new Administrator account and delete the other one. that would get rid of all your user files. if it doesnt then you could delete the rest manually.
