Camera was left in washer and washed with clothes. There is no image on the screen when the camera is turned on but all other functions (on/off, zoom in/zoom out...) are fine.
I just solved the problem. The lens system wire connector to the main pcb was out of this female conector. Only you need its disassemble the camera and in the back of the lcd there's the conector, press it with carefully and test your camera.

The symptoms you describe indicate you may have a CCD problem. You didn't state what model you have (you should always do that, you will get better answers). Canon has issued a service notice for several models listed here. If you have one of these models, and it is determined that this is the problem, Canon will repair the camera at no cost, regardless of warranty status. Contact your regional Canon service agency for guidance.
After going through the menu and choosing user image, view the picture you would like to set as your start image. Press the button with the E on it that is underneath the zoom button. The screen should then show four images across the top, say the word "RESIZE" under that, and have the numbers 7,5,3,and 1 down the left hand side of the display. Below the number one there is an icon of a person and a camera. Scroll down to that icon and press the OK button. Your start image should now be chosen. Turn you camera off and power it back up to see if it worked. Hope this helped.
Hey evafrech,
If when you turn the camera on the lcd screen is black could be do to an incompatible image has been selected as your start up image in camera settings. If this is the case you need to change your start up image. As far as your images coming out black make sure you are in shooting mode and not playback, and make sure the flash is working and that you are not too far from your subject. If none of this works I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician. Most retailers have a return/exchange period, and as long as you are still within that period you could just exchange it for a new one.
