There are no universal password/encryption setting.
Your next door neighbour has protected her wireless network and Internet access from unauthorized access. If she wishes to give you access to her wireless and Internet she would give you the password. That is her choice.

Anyways, Probably the Wireless connection your trying to connect to has a Network Security enabled on it.
Gaming consoles cant' access that type of Encryption, reason I do not know why but to be able to get wireless connection using your Nintendo DS you will need to disable the Wireless Network Security of your Wireless Router to be able to get Wireless Access using your Nintendo DS.
I also had issues with mine before and found out that disabling the Network Security will let me get Internet Access on my portable console.
Just Disable the Network Security this will allow you to get Internet Access on your Nintendo, for the Security of your Wireless you can get the MAC Address of each wireless device you have and input those MAC Addresses into the Router Settings to get Security and not allow other poeplt to gain access on your Wireless Internet.

Hello. For setting up an internet connection with your Nintendo 3DS, you have to follow these easy steps:

1. Turn on your console and go to System Settings
2. Tap Internet Settings
3. Tap Connection Settings
4. Tap New Connection
5. Tap Manual Setup
6. Tap Search for Access Point (Here, your Nintendo will search for any wireless connections in range. You will see a status message: Access point found)
7. Look for a Wireless connection (if it's not yours, you have to know the password in order to acces other's connections) Every locked/unlocked connection has a lock/unlock icon. Acces the unlocked icon and then you are connected!

I apologize but your description is a little confusing. You state you are trying to connect the xbox to the wireless connection through your PC?

If you are trying to connect your xbox to the internet through your wireless router but it ask for a WPA key, you will need to enter this key in order to gain internet access. If you do not know they key, you will need to access your router configuration page, log in and reset or generate the key.

You can do this by following the steps below.
Open up your internet browser on your PC and go to your gateway IP address. This will usually be 192.168.1.1. A log in window should come up and you will need to log in. Once you log in, there should be a section for wireless internet settings/security. You will be able to add the pass key or reset it.

If this is not your wireless internet connection(this is a neighbors internet) then they will have to give you the pass key.

Press Fn +F5 key then turn on wifi. Also make sure wireless switch is turned on.Then check if sitll not connected then uninstall wireless network driver from add remove programs in control panel then reinstall. Then if you are able to connect wifi then still not access internet then follow below to configure wifi router. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on WAN setting and set as your internet service provider settings.Click on wireless and enable it if it is disable then save settings and restart router. Then check. . Your friend is able to go online using the same wireless network. that means the wireless network is working properly and there might be a problem with your computer .
You said that you can connect to the wireless network but you can not go online.
Check the IP address and the default gateway of the computer.
Try to ping the router and DNS server and check what happens.
Make sure that there is no static IP address on the computer.

If you are unable to restore the previous settings of the computer? I might advised you to search for the driver of your wireless adapter and you'll needing to reinstall it to your computer.

Note: Make sure that the adapter is still installed to the computer.

Before you go to your friend's, download the Watcher program from Sierra wireless onto a cd. And install it instead of the AT&T Connection MGR.

There are three major steps to setting up a wireless router.

First set up WAN side access to the internet. For this you need information about your internet service provider. Please respond with your internet service provider's name or better yet a link to their help/support website.

I assume you already have access to configure the router at 192.168.2.1 if not please do the following. Open Internet explorer and enter 192.168.2.1 where you would enter fixya.com and press enter -- do web pages appear in your screen from the wired computer. If so we have manual access to configure the router. If not let me know.
