Turn the unit off so the bulb can cool and just take it out. Sounds like there is a problem with the switch, as to the melted surround if it is part of the liner there aint nothing you can do, save patch it with fiberglass and resin.

Reduce risk of overheating and plastic melting if lights stay on

Even though I have found a statement (I think it was in the LG2.gif troubleshooting2.gif FAQS on line) that the lights in the newer LFX25960 french door/bottom freezer refrigerator will shut off after a period of time to prevent overheating and melting the plastic housing, I have heard of this problem enough times to worry about it. So I replaced the two 60 watt bulbs in my refrigerator with 25 watt appliance bulbs just in case. They provide more than enough light and do not get as hot when on. It took a while to find them. They are made by Philips2.gif and were at Home Depot but not always in stock.

The LG refrigerator door lights do not come on when I open the door every thing else works. French doors #LFC25760SW Hepl!!!

Were the doors left open at anytime? If so it has a thermostat that will shut off the lights to keep from getting too hot, If they werent left open, could be bad bulb or stuck or bad light switch on the door, all very easy fixes.

Karri,

I experienced the same problem with my LG refrigerator (model LFC25760ST). Came home from a weekend trip only to find that the light bulb assembly had melted and dropped onto the top shelf. The interior of the refirgerator compartment was very warm (est. 70 to 80 degrees) and everything in it had spoiled. Fortunately, nothing worse had happened. (According to consumer information on the Internet this LG refrigerator is suspected - but not proven - to have been the cause of a couple of house fires.)

There was no recall, however, because the reports to the Consumer Products Safety Commission were for less than 5% of this model sold in the U.S. But if you contact LG customer service (1-800-243-0000) whether your unit is still under warranty or not they should send someone out to replace the lamp assembly at no charge to you - this one with a heat sensor that serves as a backup to turning the lights off once the doors are closed.

Newer LG refrigerators have LED lights instead of incandescent light bulbs so they don't produce enough heat to warm the interior of the fridge or melt the light housing.

To learn more about other folk's similar experiences with these LG refrigerators just do an Internet search using "LG and "LCF25760" and "melted plastic." (Note: Leave the other letters after the five numbers in the model number off - they only refer to the exterior finish [i.e., "ST" = stainless steel] and unnecessarily narrow the search so as to miss some links.

Good luck with LG customer service.

We have a Lg LFC25760SW fridge and the lights stay on in side the fridge

LG had a circuit board malfunction with many french door models with fridge lights staying on with the door closed. the bulb lens usually overheats; deforms; and falls off. the plastic frame surround is warped too. the bulb sockets are darkened too. if this is the case, call LG and they will usually repair this overheating issue for free. you can just unscrew the bulbs for the meantime.

You have a bad main board with a relay stuck shut. Call an LG dealer and ask them if there is a service bulliten on your model. If there is, your parts are free.

LG Design defect - Light stayed on and melted the fridge.

yes, contact LG for this known problem. it's a circuit board defect. the tech should replace both bulbs w/lower wattage, plastic bulb lens, lens surround and bulb sockets themselves. be sure to have your fridge model # and serial # handy.

Refrigerator Lights Stayed on, Melted Plastic and Stopped Cooling

The control board relay switch for the light bulb stuck in the on position and needs to be replaced along with the light cover and housing.  There is also a replacement light harness that has a high limit switch to shut off the lights if this happens again.  LG knows about this problem and if you call LG customer service, they will grant a one time warranty extension to take care of this problem.
