I just need to replace the battery, how do I open the back, does it twist off or snap off.

You can simply replace battery in your Fossil Twist 1114 watch. First of all you have to open back case of your watch and remove existing battery. Be careful and do not creates scratches on the watch. After removing existing battery from watch you should place new battery in the watch.

There are plenty of charts for battery equivalent on the Internet.
so open and remove battery then identify or bring to battery store to purchase new one.
opening the back you may need spanner type tool.
it may be easier to just bring to battery store for replacement.
i purchased tools and batteries from Amazon for doing watches in family. Figured saves about $80.00.
proper tools will help don't forget a closing clamp for snap close styles.

Snap off or screw backs both need special tools to remove.
Simplest answer is take it to a watch maker or competent jeweller to replace the battery and if necessary re-seal the opening.

You must first determine if the watch has a screw down back or snap off back.The top picture is a scre down back and the bottom is a snap off. If it is a screw down back you will need a watch case back opener to open. If is is a snap off you need to look around the back and find the little notch. you can then take something like a butter knife insert the edge between the case back and the case and snap the back off.

There are typically 2 ways to open the back of a watch. Some watches have a snap off cover, other are screwed on.
Snap On Somewhere around the perimeter of the back of the watch you will see a small crescent. This is the place where a small screwdriver can be inserted and twisted to remove the back.
To replace the back, simply position it evenly on the back of the watch and press.
Screw On Removing a screw on back is slightly more difficult. For these backs, there are typically a series of slots around the perimeter of the back of the watch. The best way to loosen the back is with a pair of needle nose pliers. Place the 2 tips of the pliers in slots on opposite sides of the back of the watch. Apply light but constant pressure and turn the back counter clockwise.
To replace the back, carefully replace the back with your fingers. Be sure the back is set correctly in the threads by turning the back slightly counter clockwise. When you feel the threads click into place, simply turn the back clockwise with your fingers to tighten. Once finger tight, once again use the needle nose pliers to tighten the back.

Most Skagen watches have a snap-in, snap-out back. You will need a case back opening tool ($3 to $14) or a slotted jeweler's screw driver or knife blade to pry it open. Do this over a counter or towel in case the battery pops out. Examine and make note of which side of the battery is up. Get the number off the battery, better yet take it with you to Wal-Mart, Radio Shack or anywere else they sell batteries. Buy a replacement, install it, and try to reinstall the back. Good luck!
Do not try placing your Skagen watch face down on a soft towel, on a hard surface, and then then try to mussle in the back, or tap it with a mall or hammer. You very likely will break the crystal.
Without a Case Closing Plier ($15 to $20) or a Case Closing Press ($15 to $50) you will not be able to get the back to snap back in. You could try a conventional vise and size some vinyl or plastic washer to to fit the bezel and protect the crystal/face of the watch, and some flat vinyl/plastic that covers the back of the watch. Align the front and back plastic pieces with the back, carefully insert it in your vice, and tighten until the back snaps in. This could be fatal if you mess up!
A simpler solution is to take your watch to a place that specializes in selling and servicing a variety of watches, hopefull Skagens, maybe a jewelry store, and have them replace the battery. They should have the closing tool and you can expect to pay $10 to $15 for the battery and installation.
If you like Skagens, you can go on-line and find the appropriate tools to do this. Or, pay the watch store. Many Skagens use up batteries at the rate of every 10 to 15 months. Also, you can look up Skagen on line and see if they will service your watch. They are located in Reno, Nevada

You can sometimes remove a screw back using a pair of snipe nose pliers in two of the slots, but unless the watch can be mounted safely in a small vice then this is quite difficult. The back from snap back watches can be removed with a blunt pen knife. If you look carefully around the edge of the watch casing you should see a small indent in the cover. This is where you start with the blunt pen knife, working your way around the edge twisting the knife gently as you go. Eventually the back will snap out of the watch casing
