Sounds like you have a tuner or an antenna problem. If you are using a DVT converter box to watch off the air TV, the signal has to be very good to get sound and picture. Try connecting a VCR or a DVD player trough the coax cable and see if it you get sound an pic on Channel 3 or 4. If you do, it is an antenna problem.

I went s video out of dvd player into rf modulator video converter to rca cabels from modulator to tv and still doesnt work

It sounds like you have got the cables mixed up. You need to plug the output of the modulator into the aerial connection on the TV. The idea of an rf modulator is to let you connect a source into a TV via the antenna connection on the TV.

Samsung ps wx30 surround sound system. speakers are plugged in to dvd player. dvd player is connected to tv via hdmi cable. speakers only work when using dvd player and not tv/sky etc.. am i missing some...

Hi,here is my simple solution...
To listen your TV on your
samsung ps wx30 surround sound system ,
** you need to connect "Audio Output " RCA jacks or "Optic cable output" or "HDMI out " of your TV unit
** to "AUX input " or "TV" OR "Any input" of your
dvd player or "Optic Cable input" or "HDMI input"
** than just switch to respective mode on
dvd player corresponding your RCA or Optic connection or HDMI ..
.
There you go..Your TV sound is on the
dvd player By this means whatever you watch on the
TV (
tuner, satellite , Xbox , etc..) ,it's sound will come thru your
dvd player.

Hope this helps!..if more he?p requires pls let me know..
Take care and please

Screen lights up sound OK, but large horz bars-with no video information. I disconnected the DVD player and TV is OK. I re-connected the player and TV is OK again...I don't know for how long, any ideas? ...

Mainboard (AKA tuner board) is the issue. It was lost with the DVD input plugged into the mainboard. IF this happens again, I would recommend unplugging the internal DVD and go with an external option. These combo tvs are confused because of the extra processing power needed for an internal combo player.

Thank you!

I have an external DVD player. When I plug it in the back of my RCA 20" TV/DVD combo, model BD20TF10 through rca cables there is only sound and no video. When I plug it with an S-video cable I get...

Ok, this seems to be a common problem amongst us techno-phobic couch potatos ( just kidding), sounds like tv input is not selected on right channel input. make sure pins on s-video are not bent or missing, if they are, you need a new s-video cable, try connection through the red/white/yellow cables, make sure that you have correct input selected on tv set ( example: S-video, component1 , aux 1,HDMI1, and so on.) put dvd in player and keep going till you get the right one. in ,my experience, the R/W/Y cable is component1 and of course, s-video, is well, s-video, kinda self explanatory...

We recently purchased an AVR 146 receiver and have attempted to connect our DVR satellite receiver, a DVD player/recorder and our Hitachi (non HD) TV, plus a surround sound system to it. The surround sound...

Hello,

This is how the connection is suppose to be, DVR "OUT", to TV "IN" using the RCA plugs, then press AV on the TV. If this is how you connected it, then maybe there is something wrong with the video wire (Yellow).

As for the DVD, you need to connect an Audio wire separately because the component Red + Green + Blue wire only stands for video. Audio is Red and White, this must be connected for you to get sound from the DVD.

To connect the Audio for your DVD player, connect Red and White wire to Audio "OUT" of your DVD player, to "AUX" in of your AVR 146 receiver, then select AUX on your receiver and sound will come out from your DVD through the receiver.

I hope this is not complicated for you. This connection is simple, all you need is to understand the basics which is OUT and IN. If you want to watch DVD on your TV, this means the DVD will be good OUT to IN of the DVD. The same goes for audio.

If you don't understand, please let me know so that I can direct you further.

Good luck.

Cant hook dvd/vcr to my cable box the manual says I need a extern

The cable box IS an external tuner.  You should connect the video output (either S video, HDMI, or component video) of the cable box to the video input of the DVD.  Then connect the audio output of the cable box to the audio input of the DVD via stereo RCA cables.  If your tv monitor has multiple inputs (ie: video 1, 2, and 3...) connect the video and audio output of the DVD to your tv monitor using an alternate video input (if cable box goes into your tv thru video 1, connect the DVD to video 2).  If your cable box only has one output, or your tv has only one input, then just connect your cable box to the DVD as above, and connect the DVD to your tv.

Sound through tv on M280 portabel dvd player

Do you have both video and audio cables connected? Yellow or S-Video cables are only for video, you also need to connect the red and white RCA connectors on player and TV for stereo sound.
If you have already done this, check the player's menu to see if there is a setting for external or auxiliary audio.
