Tomtom startup freeze

(1) My Tomtom One xls freezes at the startup screen, the one with the finger on it. It then takes a reset to get out of it.
(2) If the USB cord is plugged in, it freezes at the blue screen with  a picture of a unit with the cord plugged in. If the cord is then removed, it proceeds to (1).
I've tried the reset procedure, but no joy..
Any ideas?
Jim

If you have the programs downloaded from tomtom home then you need to copy them to the sd card that you purchased. In the home program you can choose to install the programs and map to the sd card. It takes a bit of a search to get the tomtom home program understood. The credit card with the codes is an authorization code for the program.

SOURCE: PC does not recognise TomTom

Dont use a HUB, connect it directly to the PC.

Reset the unit by pushing a bent paperclip or pin into the hole on the bottom marked 'reset' turn it back on, plug it in & charge it via USB overnight or as long as you can in the car, make sure the led on the top is green, tap the bottom right of the screen & check the battery symbol on the unit says charging underneath.

If this doesn't help.
contact them about the problem...

SOURCE: TomTom ONE has flashing "X" and picture of TomTom

I found this.

Question: Device shows a flashing cross when turned on.

Answer:

If your device only shows a cross after you turn it on, the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found.

To solve this, follow the steps below.

Manually remove the TomTom application:
Reset your device.

Connect your device to your computer.

Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

Do one of the following:
Windows: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the Removable Disk for your TomTom device.
Macintosh: Double-click the desktop icon for your TomTom device.

Delete all files except the following:
Do not delete any of the folders!
Do not delete the files antitheftw.bmp, lowbatteryw.bmp and splashw.bmp (if present)!

Reinstall the TomTom application:
Start TomTom HOME

Select an option:
I previously updated my device on this computer
I never updated my device on this computer

Click Done and then click Device > Disconnect Device.
Your device should now start up again. If it hasn't started up after 10 seconds, press the On/off button.

After i turn on tomtom it freeze on the screen where i'm supossed to tap screen to go on

Your TomTom One does not normally need to be tapped on the screen to go on: the freezing indicates that your TomTom software is corrupted either as a result of a bad update or its 'flash' disk is corrupted for some reasons: hopefully, you have made a backup with TomTom Home as I would recommend that you do a RESTORE.
In any case, as a first step, I would recommend, with unit power ON, doing a 'hard reset' by poking a tooth pick/match stick thru the 'reset' hole (under your unit opposite to the mini USB port) for 3-5 seconds and then withdraw the stick: if it does not fix the problem, then proceed to do a system restore as recommended.
Hope it helps: please let me know how you go so that I can provide you with further assistance as required. Good luck!

Screen freezes

There is a reset under the connector to the cradel. It is a small hole. If you push a paper clip in it it will reset back. A soft reset that usally clears this type of issue. If not reload from Tom Tom Home software you can download from the Tom Tom website.

Tomtom 510 doesn't reset

Before you keep resetting your tomtom I would intall a new battery. Call your closest "batteries plus store" or "radioshack store" and then try to reset it, it might be only the battery and nothing to do with the reseting.....

When i turn it on it freezes.

Hello, I own a TomTom also. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home and hope this will work. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are fully charged up or the USB cord is plugged in.

If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
  1. Soft reset your device. *

  2. If your device still does not start up, then reinstall the TomTom application using HOME
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data. *    In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.

Tomtom one xl freezing on start up screen

OK... I found an amature solution;

- Do a soft reset of the system, with the paperclip (see tomtom site)
- Put the device on the docking station and connect it to power as well as to your computer. While it's turned off
- Turn on the TOMTOM while connected to the computer
- Start the TOMTOM Home software
- And it made connection again
- Disconnect the device via the software
- Take the device out of the docking station
- Turn it off and on once

This worked for me, my next step would have been the support desk. Grtz Derk
