I installed the laser hp 1100 on windows xp
Your problem is your PC parallel port is not configured or turned on. I would first look in the control panel, device manager and see if you have a parallel port listed and it does not have a yellow or red sign on it. If red or yellow then it is on but not configured. See below for that solution.
If it does not appear, reboot your PC and enter the bios. Find the setting for the parallel port and set to enable. If on you can change the setting on what type of parallel it is emulating. Normal is bi-directional IEEE.
Then save and restart to go into Windows. Test and print.
OK, if the parallel port in the DEVICE MANAGER shows a yellow or red sign on it, it has a bad driver, or bad settings. Un-install the port by right clicking and choose UN-INSTALL. Restart your PC and it should find the parallel port and install it again. Hopefully without the yellow or red sign on it. If the red or yellow sign is back. Look on the internet for the newest driver for your motherboard.
As a note: if you are using a print server or USB to parallel adapter these solutions won't help. You will have other issues to address.
Good Luck
