My WD 1.5 TB Homebook Essential will not allow the

My new WD 1.5 TB Homebook Essential will not allow the computer to go into "sleep" mode. When I put the computer into sleep, after about 10 seconds, the WD drive "wakes up" the computer. I tried changing the settings on the WD drive by un-checking the box by "Settings--Pause backup until computer is idle," thinking this would prevent its activity by not performing a backup when the computer is idle, or asleep. I want to go back to being able to having the computer to go to sleep when I am not using it, and not have to shut it off in order to make it be inactive.

SOURCE: WD passport 320GB Can I use it as storage, not backup?

You can use it as storage if you would like. You can also delete files once they are put on the passport. When it is connected to the computer open my computer and it will be listed there. You can use it as storage by copying files into this way rather than syncing it. Syncing it could cause you to lose files.

SOURCE: Hello, I bought WD My Book Essential 1 TB but

Most probably the format of your hard drive is NTFS. Samsung DVD players only recognize FAT32 formats. If you have the patience and resources try to change the format of your hard drive to FAT32. Better yet since it is a 1TB try to create a partition one NTFS and one FAT32 because FAT32 cannot go beyond 4GB for files.

Hope this helps.

Problem with Accessing Western Digital WD My Passport Essential SE 1 Tb external driver, please guide to resolve problem with windows XP

Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management Then go into Disk Management. Hopefully you will see a drive with a capacity of about 480 GB (plus or minus), that's your disk.
Right click on it and select change drive letter and change the drive letter to something that isn't in use.
If that doesn't work or it doesn't show up, go into the Device Manager from the Computer Management screen and see if there is anything under disk drives with a yellow or red symbol next to it. If so, right click it, select uninstall, then unplug the disk drive and plug it back in.

My 1 tb WD hard drive isn't even being recognized

If the 1 tb is spinning up, which I assume it is, the new PC (assuming a Win 7 OS) should see it and mount a driver to be able to talk with it. I would double check all my connections at the drive and the PC, try different USB ports just in case one is dead.
