Don't open door (stop dryer) until cool-down and dryer stops. many times the heating element is still hot and when you stop the dryer in the middle of the cycle, the rear of the dryer where the heating element is, will scorch your clothes.

Maytag gas dryer about 10 years old leaving black smudge marks on clothing. The wheel was hanging up on the dryer drum. Could there be other causes for the smudge marks?

your clothes are getting caught between the drum and the rim due to bearings out of the wheel guides. These guides are what the drum rests on when it is turning. Most dryers you can access these guides by taking the front off the dryer. Not a big expense just a little difficult to get to .

Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.

Dryer squeeking while tumbling & leaves black smudge on clothes

it sounds like a drum support roller is going bad or the belt idler pulley. i think maytag has a kick panel on the bottom that can be removed. look inside with a flashlight and you may be able to see something. if not, you may have to take the drum out to get a really good look. make a note and study how the drive belt serpentines around the motor, pulley, and drum so you can get it back together.

Frigidaire Dryer Model FLGB43RG

those "burn" marks if they have an arking shape to them are smudges from the felt that goes on the drum support above and bellow the door inside the drier. the felts wear out every five to seven years or so. easy repair. send me a model number and i could go into more detail. part numbers ect.

Black marks

throw a clean pair of old sneakers in the dryer with the clothes. this should not allow the clothes to stay in one place during the entire dry cycle

Brown smudges on clothes

Take a look and see if the drum near the door moves up vertically. It shouldn't move more than 3/16ths of an inch. If it does, replace the upper felt seal/plastic slide. The upper seal that supports the front of the drum on the front of the dryer is worn out to the point that clothes can get stuck in the gap between the drum and the front of the machine. This leaves brown wedge marks on clothes. While it's apart, replace the lower felt seal as well.
