Power down fridge.make sure drain line is defeosted and clear. Power fridge back up and keep the fridge temp at recommended temp. Fixed! I been having this issue for years and all the BS on the internet didn't help, figured it out on my own. If you lower your fridge temp to low the drain line freezes and will over flow under your crisper and on to your floor. It's been on the now water!

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or COPPER solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Make a clip at the other end of the wire , and " clip " it over the glass tube (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

Formation of water

If your refer has a watering device on the outside of the door then it could be that the resevour is cracked and leaking into the refer. It is usually behind the meat drawer ot somewhere in the lower part of the refer. If you do not have a water dispenser but an ice maker then it is posible that the ice maker is leaking. but that is not that common. There is one more possibility that it is just condensation from the lettuce crisper or the drawers below where fresh vegies would be. If that is turned up too high or low then condnsation can accur and then leak to the bottom of the refer. Check these things out. and you can check you owners manual if you have one. you can download a manual for free online also for your brand and model #. they will have a trouble shooting section for this comon problem. Good Luck

Ice Maker leaks water inside the freezer

I see you said you looked and the water valve is off but the only that I know of this happening is a defective water control valve. Like a dripping faucet that when off slowly drips until the ice forms and then one the ice maker dumps ice and tries to refill the water goes in every direction. Unplug water valve to confirm what I am saying, Tell me if it continues to leak. Sea Breeze

Hi GE top freezer fridge - 5 years old( no ice

Well for one thing that unit was manufactured 10 years ago. But it sounds like the defrost drain is clogged and the water is running down the inside of the unit. The evaporator (not condenser) is on the bottom of the freezer compartment. The bottom panel of the freezer comes out. They are a bit of a pain to do, but can be done.

Freezer leaking water

My Whirlpool has been filling the bottom under the crispers with water and leaking out the vents (?) from the freezer down into the fridge compartment. I finally caught it today being rather loud, probably in a defrost cycle, and it was positively POURING in the fridge. After some more research on this site I removed the freezer bottom tray (1/4" ratchet needed) and found a layer of 1/2" thick ice under the tray. My guess is the drain hole iced up. Removed all the ice from under the tray and on the metal drain run in the back (danger, seemed sharp) and put it all back together. I didn't try to pour hot water down the drain yet, thinking positive thoughts that the drain itself isn't iced all the way to the tray near the floor. Will watch it carefully.

Roper Refrigerator - manufactured 12/99 - RT18DKXH W00

tata75,
Happy to assist you,

you said,
For the past three days, water has been leaking/freezing at an alarming rate. The freezer had about 2 inches of ice built up and the bottom of the refrigerator is holding water, too. Both crisper s were FULL of water. I don't know if the ice maker connection is broken or what. Looks like I have to cut off the cold water completely to the sink to get it to stop.

Sounds like the ice maker or its line is leaking the water to me. And obviously it will freeze in the freezer.
