I have a Frigidaire Upright Freezer making strange noise.
I have a Frigidaire Upright Freezer, approximately ten years old. Not frequently opened at all, out in the garage, which is quite cool, especially now. Have never had a problem with it. Suddenly, today, it's making a whirring noise accompanied by a medium toned almost moan-like sound; this goes on for a while, then stops entirely. It has resumed making the combined noise twice today. Everything inside is still frozen solid; it appears to be working fine. The freezer is quite stuffed with food.
Have no record of model number. Height of freezer is less than 5 feet. I notice there is some (not a lot) of ice on top of inside door and inside, where door meets the unit. Other than that, I don't see any, but haven't removed food.
I appreciate this! Thanks for suggestion. I have no idea how to check the condenser fan, or whether bearings can be replaced. Does this mean I need a new freezer? Is this an expensive professional repair?I appreciate this! Thanks for suggestion. I have no idea how to check the condenser fan, or whether bearings can be replaced. The ice is caused by a door gasket leak. If it is the fan it will take a while for the freezer to thaw out especially when in a cold ambient.
You might find a source of dry ice just in case it fails. That works much better then ice made from water and is also much colder. Just have on proper protection when handling. Good Luck, Gilshultz

If your freezer is a frost free, then it has probably stopped in a defrost cycle. The defrost timer is in the back lower left side of the unit, it has a little nub in the center on one side, if you can turn it clockwise and the unit comes on, you will need to replace the timer part #297318010
Did your freezer previously experience a power loss? If the temperature of food rises to an unsafe level, the buzzer will sound and the red light, if equipped, will also glow. First, deactivate the alarm to your appliance by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker. Wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on your freezer. After deactivating the alarm and your freezer has run approximately four hours, the red light/alarm should go off on its own. If the red light/alarm continues to stay on, your freezer may possibly have a communication problem with the control board, temperature control or a wiring harness. If this is the case, I would recommend connecting with an experienced technician to determine the underlying cause.

Hello richardso903 - Once again try resetting the freezer by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and restart the unit. Set the unit to ON, by pressing and holding the Power button for approximately ten seconds. If issue persists and freezer does not turn on, then the unit may be experiencing a wiring failure, faulty plug or control board. I would strongly recommend connecting with a professional to narrow down the precise issue before investing in parts that may or may not be the root cause.
Freon running through the feon lines can make some odd noises, usually a gurgling or higher pitched noise. If your freezer works fine with no more strange noises, then don't worry about it. If you have temperature problems or continue to have abnormal noises, then see if your freezer has the 5 year sealed system warrantee that most freezers have. If it does, and it is under 5 years, then call Frigidaire to come out to check it out for free. If it is out of warrantee you will need to live with it or replace the freezer, since a freon sealed system repair is very high. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
Locate what is making the noise. There is a fan in the freezer behind the rear cover inside.
There is a fan underneath accessed from the rear behind the cardboard backing.
The compressor is also there with a starter/overload relay which could make the noise.
I have a Kenmore Freezer model # 253.9251310 serial # s510347256 10\95 Makes all kinds of noises and now is defrosting. Sounds like fan is working but no noises besides fan. any ideas
You may need a new door seal.
But they are not easy to put on properly and I would not recommend spending a lot of money on a ten year old freezer! the new ones are much more energy efficient and will save you a lot of money!
