Thin horizontal line across the entire TV screen

Hi,

Our TV has a thin horizontal line across the entire TV screen. I know that the picture has collapsed (Vertical?). We used to be able to hit the TV a couple of times and the picture would come back. Well it won't anymore. Sice it seemed to be an intermintent problem, I figured there was a bad solder joint somewhere on the board. Can you point me in the right direction? Where should I be looking? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Hi, your correct it is collapsed vertically, you should have re-soldered it before it failed because now you may have to replace the IC but I would re-solder it first as this possibly will fix it, look for a small aluminum (silver colored) heatsink with a black 7-10 pin IC screwed onto the heatsink, flip the main board over and this IC will probably have 2-3 (or more) pins broken, re-solder with 60-40 tin/lead solder, you didn`t give make & model number so thats all the info I can give you, good luck, BMW Rider

My tv sony kv-xa21m61 display too bright and many horizontal lines. no picture

Vertical retrace lines is the problem. Thin white lines runs across the entire screen, at about an inch apart to each other. Check its video output supply voltage. Reduce the screen voltage to a little bit down and check. If you still wish to know more about this fault, check this site. Pull up older posts there.

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
