How do I remove melted plastic from a gas range?

I've got a black Kenmore gas range and recently had part of a teakettle cap melt on the painted surface of it. I was able to scrape some of it off with a plastic scraper, but I'm afraid to do anything more in fear I might scratch the surface. I also turned on the burner for a bit in hopes that the plastic would soften enough for me to scrape it off, but that didn't work either. The part that is melted looks like large droplets of black water and it is extremely hard. Help?! (keep in mind, this is not a glass cooktop, but a black painted gas range)

Place several paper towles (damp or dry) over the melted on plastic and then use a hot iron (I used cotton setting with steam) on paper towles as it remelts plastic, paper towles lifts it from the top stove surface. It can take several go overs using new paper towles time. My niece left her doll too close to my stove and her dolly's hand and arm melted to my stove top, and this did the trick.

Try melting it with a propane torch heating the plastic only then when it's good and melted wipe it with a cloth be careful not to burn yourself wear leather industrial gloves melted plastic gets lava hot and will leave a nasty burn repeat the process until all plastic is gone

SOURCE: kenmore glass top range left front large burner out

check the burner socket, it is likely that contact is being lost where the burner connects to the hardwired portion of the system (the socket). It is not unusual for the socket to "burn up" when there is a poor connection to the burner resulting in the burner being replaced and the new burner not working or working intermittently.

SOURCE: Plastic melted on burner- how to remove?

If you can break away the plastic then you will be fine, but never use a scraper on them. If all fails replace.

SOURCE: Glass cooktop scratched

Unfortunately, these style cooktops are VERY fragile to scratching and cracking. The wrong kind of cookware can also mark them. Copper or aluminum pots and pans can discolor them. Do not use pyrex (glass) cookware on them either. Stainless is the best. NO CAST IRON either. Anyways, there's not much can be done without replacing the top itself.

Kenmore dryer

found this..
Step 1 Run the dryer on a regular setting for 20 minutes to soften the plastic. Scrape the plastic off with a wooden or plastic spatula or paint scraper, taking care not to damage the dryer's interior.
Step 2 Apply 1 to 2 tsp. nail polish remover to a clean cloth, and rub the plastic to dissolve it. Rub the area with a damp cloth to rinse the nail polish remover.
Step 3 impt! Mix 1 tsp. liquid laundry soap with 1 cup water. Dip a clean cloth in this solution, and rub the area again. Rinse well with a cloth dipped in clean water.

Where do I find high temp paint to use on a gas stove?

Auto parts stores have manifold and engine paints for high temp use, or the hardware store has barbecue and wood stove paints, usually black. Your stove may have been enameled (Melted glass powder process, like ovens, old sinks and bathtubs).

Burner knobs melt on GE Profile XL44 gas range.

I had the same problem and searched extensively for a solution. They even have a video from GE on the net telling you how to avoid melting them, which is basically don't open to broil and make sure the seal is good on the oven. Essentially, don't use their oven normally like the rest of the ovens in the world. Finally I went to a few show rooms to look for a knob to substitute for the garbage ones from GE. On one of the new models they have a solid cast stainless knob (with a plastic shaft, I think it is delrin) which looks identical but has a longer shaft. I obtained the PN which is WB03T10262 and ordered one. I trimmed the shaft length to match the length of the defective knob with a hack saw, and had to trim out some mold flashing in the cavity. After a couple of fittings I was finshed and it looks fine. I then ordered 3 more from the Appliance Zone for $15.98 each. GE's price for the same part was $25.25!!

Cleaning melted plastic from oven

i found this on the internet..
For a regular electric oven: Place a bag of ice directly on the melted plastic to chill it and make it more brittle. Then carefully, using a razor-blade scraper, lift off the puddle ofplastic. This procedure will not hurt an interior porcelain finish. For a regular gas oven: First turn off the gas..

Tin foil melted in my oven.

hi floppy,

if you can't scrape most of it off with a plastic scraper, you may have to buy a new bottom pan. if you can get most of it off it should be ok to use. also if you have propane gas make sure your stove was converted properly.
