Philips big screen hazy/color problems easy fix?

based on model number it could be cleaning or another issue--with color turned off what color is the screen? On this set with back removed also clean the 3 large lens as if dusty picture will be dull and somewhat dark.

Had same problem with my panasonic 54" was the lamp easy fix did it my self for a little over $100

This is a common problem. Its called a convergence failure.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:

• Screen Looks 3D
• Colors wont align
• Video may look distorted

Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms

• Dull looking video
• White looking video
• Halos around objects
• Red/Orange looking video

If its DLP projection the color wheel needs to be repaired. If its CRT projection the projection bulbs need some coolant refill.

If you take it to a shop the repair costs are around $350.00 color wheel and 150.00 for coolant on CRT's...

The convergence output IC's have failed which is a common problem with all projection tv's. They need to be replaced and this is somewhat of a major job. Unless you are real handy those big amps are not easy to get to or desolder and replace. A reputable tv repair shop usually charges around $200 to $350 to do the job.

convergence problem. replace this 2 IC parts: STK392-120. verify if this is the same # IC in your set. it is mounted on a big heatsink. let us know.

A common fault with phillips is the CRT coolant needs to be replaced about every 5 to 6 years. If you need more info please respond to this same post

Projection televisions do NOT generally offer easy DIY (do it yourself) solutions to problems. If they are telling you that the projectors need to be adjusted, you probably are better off buying a television elsewhere because they don't sound like they know what they are talking about. If the television uses CRT technology, you may notice color halos and bad color mixes if the red, green, and blue projection tubes are not aligned. Alignment should (in most cases) be done by a professional.

Have you turned on the television and seen for yourself what the problems are? If you know of a good repair center, get a quote from them after you have seen the issue(s) first hand, then make your final purchasing decision. It is terribly difficult to diagnose without seeing the condition of the television and images it produces in person.

sounds like you need to have the two convergence IC's replaced. These are soldered on the main board. Good Luck
