My GE WSM 2420 top load stacked washer (specifically, the drum tub support) broke (the washer tub is tilted to the side, so it does move/spin). Does anyone know where I can get a repair man/shop to fix the problem (i.e., replace the broken support)? I can order the part from GE (the part # is WH17X91). Thanks. There should be 2 screws holding it on at the rear. Looking from the rear these will be at each top corner. Once these are removed push the lid from the front of the machine towards the rear and it will pop off.
SOURCE: GE WASHER SPIN OUT PROBLEMS
Sounds like the suspension for the drum is having problems - there are usually springs holding the drum up and acting as shocks - one of the springs may have come off during an unbalanced load.
SOURCE: washer smoking
If you can actually see smoke; I would recommend you DO NOT USE and clean your dryer and house exhaust/vent line, ensuring you have a fire-resistant aluminum vent line connected to your dryer. Especially, as it may back up into or near your heating/ignition system and catch fire.
If you are smelling a burnt or smoldering rubber smell, that is different. Possible washer/dryer belt/motor going out.

If the knob is tight on the timer stem, then the timer has failed.
If the knob is loose, then maybe just the knob has failed.
You can order either of these from a number of places. One I recommend is searspartsdirect.com. YOu just enter your model number and find the exploded view for the controls. If it does not find it, drop a number off the end of the model number that you've given and try again.
They are easy to replace.
Reply back and I can give you more advice or instruction.
SOURCE: GE washer won't agitate
I had this same problem with our GE top load washer. I just needed to pull harder. (Note: The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.) Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together. Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard. I had to take the entire tub out, lay it on the porch, put my feet inside of it, and pull the agitator assembly out. I wasn't able to pull it out while it was still in the washer. BE CAREFUL! DON'T **** IT OUT; that might injure your back; just pull out slowly and as hard as you can without hurting yourself. I was able to get it out successfully, but I am currently stuck at removing the bell below the agitator. Good luck!
