How can I locate my lost/stolen tomtom?

I've lost my tomtom, despite getting it just a couple of weeks ago. I sort of suspect my teenage son's "friend" who was around adn very interested in it but don't want to make any accusations...esp as it might equally be lurking somewhere here, out of sight. Given that it is a GPS, is there any way of identifying its current location?

My daughter's TomTom was stolen yesterday. Suspect the
thieves weren't new to this game since they jimmeyed her car door and smashed her drivers side window out. I always thought you could locate a GPS device (like locating a cell phone) however, now I'm discouraged if there is no way to locate it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I agree with sximena4! Ours was stolen last night from inside of our locked garage! They broke into our garage to steal our TomTom! Crazy ..... the crooks should not be able to use the device - there has got to be some way to disable a stolen GPS! Get to it geeks!!

The other night, Saturday Jan. 17th 2009, when gathering for my grand daughters 2nd birthday party and a stay over, both my son's (grand daughter's father) and my visiting daughter had their tom tom's stolen from their cars.  A brief snow fall obliterated any sign of tracks and the theft was discovered in the morning.  My daughter's tom tom was a christmas present, so it was not even a month old :-(   Wish there was some way to get these crooks, it is becoming an epidemic. grrrrrrrrr

  • TOMTOMDUMB May 22, 2009

My tomtom was stolen last night. It seems suspect that tomtom would not provide an option to track the uniqe communication ID. They track how fast the device is moving and where it is on this planet "within a 100ft". Who gets to tap into this information for the right $. I really could care less but It would be nice to send a message to the crook that the device yoiu just stole is going to turn your *** in... the minute it is turned on. I think I'm going to buy another brand of GPS just because I am sure TomTom looks a the stats regarding theft and decided they benifit by not helping the customers with stolen TOMTOM GPS's.

First of all it is obivous that a tomtom has a unique satellite address to recieve information, or they really wouldn't work, right? Any search from anyones tomtom would change your destination, which is defintly not the case. A unique satallite address means the address could defintly be cloned and monitored for activity. Just as they do with computers and modems. I mean they were able to catch BTK, a serial killer, by tracing a floppy disk all the way back to the exact computer he used to make it for christ sake. Tomtom probable doesn't want you to really think about the possibilaties of tracking your GPS, as this would probably be a violation of our privacy and probably our rights. I really think they can, but why they want to waste their time with the thousands of calls everyday. They should get their heads out of their azz and make some goddam money. It is a freaking Global Positioning Satallite reciever, and it would be the stupidest thing that I've ever heard that Tomtom can't find the location of it, come on. It seems they prey off our ignorance and only care about making money.

No the tomtom is used to receive satellite data, it can not transmit data unless you have a bluetooth model, then it can connect to your phone if the unit is on.

If lost or stolen you can register it at the following website. If it is recovered then they will return it to you.

I got my Tom Tom XL 330S stolen yesterday at the Sport Academy. I went inside of the store for just 15 minute and went I got out, I found my truck window broken through and they took my GPS. Is there any way to track the GPS?. Tom Tom has to come up with a solution, because I spent a lot of money on the gps and the only thing I got left is just the box.

Can you track the location where the Tom Tom has been, This is the second one that has been stolen from me, their has to be some way of tracking this device or some way of disabling it, if I can't have it why should the smuck who stole it be using it, Tom Tom has to come up with a solution for all those hard working people who actually bought the darn thing, and for someone simply stealing it and using it, Come up with a solution, We know you can

In normal use a GPS sat nav is not traceable. It sends nothing. It only receives. However when it is plugged into a PC it can access the account for that device. The manufacturers system could then attempt to locate the device (get it GPS location through the internet connection) and report it to its registered owner.

Makes no sense, if it cant send information then how can it direct you, it has to send a signal to be brought back to tell you your speed and location, it has to send information, maybe not all the time but when u use directions, ps mine was stolen, i worried because my home address is in the damn thing

I received a Bushnell 5-day forecaster last year. It has worked perfectly until several weeks ago - it now shows 'network lost...try another location'. It started working a few days ago...and now it's back...

I have very briefly researched the device and find it isn't really a forecaster but a device that receives weather reports and sorts them but it isn't made clear how it accesses those Accuweather reports that are available by smartphone app or internet.
I speculate the device must either use any wireless local area network or it must access the mobile telephone network, which makes little sense as it is supposed to be a free service and mobile internet service providers usually wouldn't give anyone free access.

Perhaps the answer will be found in the device instruction manual.

If it is supposed to work through free access to the mobile telephone network, perhaps the cause is the service providers are flexing their muscles. There was some feeling a few years ago the Accuweather reports should be removed from the public domain and perhaps this is the beginning of a resurgence of that feeling.

I need someone from tom-tom to get in touch with me please concerning a missing tom-tom of mine. [email protected]. please help

you can contact tomtom HERE but if your tomtom was lost or stolen, they will not be able to help you locate it, because your tomtom is a receiver and not a transmitter.

if all gps would be able to transmit there location, there wouldnt be anymore gps thefts.

I have charged it up and it will not turn on. I have held the button down for over 20seconds but it is just dead. It was working ok a couple of weeks ago before i switched it off.

hi Sandy_50

im not sure how you tried to charge your tomtom, but you should charge for about 4 hours using the usb cable to your computer. if the battery is totally drained, this is how you should charge it. for some reason unexplained by tomtom, the home or car charger wont work to get it running again.

How do i locate my lost tomtom gps

Hi,
If your meaning can you track the GPS, no you cannot track a GPS unless it has a tracker fitted, you cannot trace it if it has been stolen,
Ironically, they work in the opposite way to a tracker, it is a locater, not a tracker

How can I locate my lost/stolen tomtom?

Unfortunately no.
Tomtom is a receiver, there is no signal sending involved.

Outside taking the serial number from the box and kicking a suspects door in there is no real chance this is coming back..

all you can do is satisfy yourself that they were too dumb to be able to do much with it..

better luck for the future.
