Most laptops have a combination of buttons you have to press on the keyboard to get it to output on the monitor output. Try pressing the FUNCTION KEY or FUNC/FN key usually found in the bottom left hand side of the keyboard. Keep that button held down while press one of the number keys.

Connect a VGA cable from the video port on your computer to the video port on the Sony Bravia.
Boot up the Dell Inspirion and hold down the Fn key and press the function key that has the monitor symbol to divert the video data to the laptop video port.
Power up the Bravia and Input button on the remote and select the PC input.

The Bravia needs the video input to be changed to PC when you connect a computer to the Bravia.
You still need to press FN + F5 to divert the laptop video data to the video port on the laptop for the TV.

Please double check that your VGA cable is working properly and you have installed the most updated version of video drivers.
Is the TV not even playing the sound? Are you on the right channel? Only try checking the sound on a AV channel by using a headphone jack to AV jack cable.
If you have a S-Video port try connecting with it you can get that cable for a buck in a dollar store.

Hi adiazjr.On the Asus 1000he, in order to switch to an external monitor you need to press the function key (Fn) at the bottom left of the keyboard and the F8 key at the top. When you press both of these keys at the same time it will send the video signal to whatever external monitor or TV you have connected. Hope this helps!

Connect the VGA cable to the external video port on the laptop, power up the Bravia first, switch the Bravia input to PC and then boot up the laptop. The Windows image etc will be automatically diverted to the Bravia.
