Sony BRAVIA KDL-52W4100 52 in. LCD HDTV Logo
Posted on Nov 26, 2009

A dark but transparent horizontal line has appeared about 20% down from the top. Any suggestions? Originally there was a dark horizontal line almost in the center of the screen. I would go away after of few hours of the tv being turned off. As the scenes changed a bright spot would appear on the right size of the line-it almost looked like light shining through a slat in a venetian blind. Now with this ribbon like area, which is about 2 inches wide, an area on the right side about 20% in from the edge seems to retain part of the previous scenes images and colors as the scene changes. Any suggestions as to problems and costs of repair would be appreciated. The set was purchased in May of 2008 Thanks.

Mine had the horizontal lines you are talking about. 1st check a test picture. Click on Menu, then Settings, then go to Product Support. From there click System Diagnosis and go to bottom and click on sample picture. If you see the same problem there, then you may want to research the possibility of installing a t-con board. You may want to try calling Sony 1st and have them walk you through the basic service repair items. I was very lucky and installed a new t-con board I purchased with all the other boards on Ebay. Good luck with solving your problem! Ron

Why did my tv go dark

If a CRT tv goes dark it means you didn't fix it cheaply when the warning signs were there. If you saw lines appearing and then later black bars on top and bottom... it is time to replace any small electrolytic capacitors before it brings down the main horizontal and or vertical output transistors and or the high voltage section of your circuit board and then the fly-back transformer.

Faulty screen, horizontal lines

Battery is stuffed, replace it. White lines is the early signs or the LCD is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Visual transparent lines at top of picture

You have a vertical output circuit problem. This was common for Philips' sets. Have a repair shop check it out. Should not be too expensive to repair.
