Hi guys. Great service. Having some difficulties with video input/output. Here's the situation:
Have a dual DVD-VCR from Sony (new). Outputs are:
VCR: Video, left audio, right audio
DVD: Component out, coax digital audio out, left audio, right audio
(no S-Video or optical)
My Sony TV is connected to my Denon AVR-4800 via S-Video cable to the Monitor 1 out on the 4800.
I've connected the VCR video to the VCR video in on the 4800
I've connected the VCR audio to the VCR audio left/right in on the 4800
There are no problems with the audio for VCR when the 4800 has VCR as the selection
I've connected the DVD component outs (R/G/B) to the 4800's component in for DVD using monster cable component video cables. I've connected the DVD audio using the DVD digital coax cable and connecting it to the 4800's coax 1 RCA coax connector.
My TV/DBS setup is fine (S-video from my DirecTV receiver into the S-video TV/DBS in. TV displays fine and audio is fine.
Here are the problems:
1. When VCR is selected on the 4800, I do not have video going to my TV (which is tuned to Video 1 input). I have audio.
2. When DVD is selected on the 4800, I do not have video coming to the TV (routed through the 4800 from the R/G/B inputs and theoretically out through the S-Video Monitor 1 output), AND I do not have audio output through the digital coax.
I just do not know enough about the paths inside the 4800 to know what I can and cannot do. For example, is it even possible to route Component video into the 4800 then out through S-Video to the TV? Plus, why wouldn't the digital coax audio be outputting to the 4800?
Help! I'm stumped...

Hi,
I am sorry to say that if you input s-video your unit only outputs throught the s-video jack. This also applies to video component. It says that on page 8 and 9 of the manual (if I understood it correctly).
This probably explains why there is no video for the VCR. Is it outputting s-video to the receiver (I am guessing it's not)?

At the System Setup Menu select “Digital In Assignment”.and set up the input source for each component ie this needs to be set to coax for dvd
I think Octagons right re switching from RGB input and having the Monitor on S Video

The signals input to the color difference (component) video jacks are not output from the VIDEO output jack (yellow) or the S-Video output jack.
In addition, the video signals input to the VIDEO input (yellow) and S-Video input jacks are not output to the color difference (component) video
jacks.

You tv may cannot support 4800, see your Tv compatibility of the video in from your DVD VCR. refer to your manual.
try using cable with RCA jack in connecting your audio and video to your tv. do not use the s-video connection . locate the audio and video OUTPUT in your dvd player, connect the jack and the other end of the cable connect it to the audio and video INPUT of the tv correspondingly. Using your TV remote control find the right channel in the TV.
that is the problems, i cannot assure that will work or can be route out. however, try use some cable or other cables maybe have some loss connection on that matter. i have nothing to say sorry.

The 4800 is designed to be a pre-out and video selector as well as an audio selector. Because it's worked as a go-between on a prior DVD that had an S-Video connection (a fact I neglected to mention on the post--sorry about that), I'm still stumped.
We really just need to understand if, when sending video in through RGB to the 4800 if it can be route out through S-Video or if it must be routed out through RGB. Unfortunately my TV doesn't have RGB--only Cable, SVid and Video cable.
Thoughts?
Still need help on this. So far, no one has been able to provide assistance who knows the Denon AVR-4800. Thanks for any help you can provide!
