My printer did the same thing. It turned out to be the scanner table cable. the one that you can see throught the glass. When you follow it to the connection, where the ink carrage is, and under the silver cover you might find the flat cable disconnected or loose. I plugged it back and it stopped. Now I have to tackle the ink tray problem. Hope this helps. Toby

I tried what you suggested, however, to no avail. I tried this numerous times and still only get flashing lights! I have been told it is a hardware problem, sad to hear a printer this old is worth nothing!
Lights flashing, supply expired is the comment in the window. Have tried 3 new ink cartridges to no avail. HP printers seem to be full of problems.
When I try to print anything, the lights flash and it tells me to power off/on the unit. It does this everytime. I have disconnected the power for 5 mins and also tried reinstalling the drivers/software on my computer. Nothing has worked so-far.
I recently encoutered a problem with my printer. When turning it on it reads turn power off and on. Its constantly saying self test. If anyone can help me out with this issue. Please let me know.
same problem, when try to print it begins, then lights flash and printing stops.
I can copy whatever I want and have full use of the enlarge/reduce feature, everything working fine except when I prompt it to print a document through the computer. I have uninstalled the software and unplugged the usb and power cords then reinstalled the software, plugged in the usb, then powered up and got one printing, then the lights began flashing again and so I turned it off and then on....it won't print again and I'm tired of trying the same things over and over again. I did get some sort of error message like "Startprinterprompt missing" when I tried to print in Notepad. Will I be unhappy with a new color laser printer when printing greeting cards?
