Make sure that the dvd disc is blank as this kind of DVD discs can be written only once, unlike DVD-RW. Then you also need a DVD burning software tool to burn the videos to your blank DVD discs. You can try Leawo DVD Creator which can burn DVD from more than 180+ formats of videos and photos with 6X faster speed.

I am afraid that Windows Media Player can't directly play DVD discs. You can try free DVD player software such as Leawo Blu-ray Player, which is a free Blu-ray player to play back all Blu-ray discs (regardless of disc protection and region codes), a free HD media player to play up to 1080p and 4K videos, a music player to tune in favorite music.

Nope...if you have a dvd writer on computer ..install a program like Nero ...or iso burner...( ill go for nero cause is easy to use)
also ..you need a writable dvd disk ...and also you have to know what lind of format your dvd player will read...if you know that your dvd reads only dvd ...vcd ..and generaly ald formats ..you have to choose in nero the disk type..and the dvd or vcd ( video cd ) ...add by browsing the folder with the movie and the subfile (translation if case) and see that they fit in tha space available on disk...
it depinds on the format ...usually a dvd format movie will have almost 4.5 G ...and you will fit in a dvd disk same size ..but
if you know that your movie is avi ...( about 700M or more if it is longer ) and you want to burn it like a dvd format ...it will convert it firsat and it will take some time ...
the easy way ..is to burn avi ..or dvx ..direct by chooseing make data **** ...in dis way your disk will be read in most players that reads dvx ...avi...mpeg4 ...but not in a clasig dvd format reader..
anyway ...if you have a avi file movie about 700m and your player suports avi format ...just put it on a regular cd in plane data format with Nero or the windows cd burner...and it will work ...
here is a link to a Nero software ..its an elder model but easy to use..and it might work ...anyway ..ask for a Nero 7 ..available on disk ..an usually came free on buying a writer .

Computer does not recognize there is a disc in the DVD drive

If this is a Windows computer. Make sure that you have the proper drivers installed.
Is the disc scratched? that could also be an issue.

I have filmed with my sony camcorder on dvd-rw 1.4 gb mini discs and it will not read on any of my computers. How do I copy these discs to my computer so I can burn them on to another disc.

Well..., First make sure that your computer has a DVD drive (I'm sure you already know)

When you take the disk out of your camcorder, do you finalize the disk?? If I don't finalize it on my camcorder then I cannot replay it on a computer or a DVD player.

Just my 2 cents!!

I need to find out what type of disc to use with our dvd burner

The specification of the DVD drive for the Aspire 5930 is
  • Type DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM / HD DVD-ROM - Integrated
  • CD / DVD read speed 24x (CD) / 8x (DVD) / 1x (HD DVD)
  • CD / DVD write speed 16x (CD) / 4x (DVD±R) / 2x (DVD-R DL) / 2.4x (DVD+R DL)
  • CD / DVD rewrite speed 10x (CD) / 4x (DVD±RW) / 3x (DVD-RAM)
This means you can burn CDs -R and +R type disc (incl R/W)
Burn single layer and dual layer DVD -R and +R disc (incl R/W)

What type of DVD do I need to use with this computer inorder to burn a DVD? Does it have to be a rewriteable disc?

Hi Mark here.

Yes you will need DVD-R (or) DVD+R to burn a DVD these are single burn only, once there written you cannot erase them.

DVD-RW & DVD+RW are rewritable and can be used multiple times.

Also check your drive it should say on front what disk it can use some will not burn different DVDs and others will burn all.

Hope this fixed ya! Pleas rate. Good Luck! Need more help comment back.

What disks to buy? dvdr dvdrw dvd+ dvd-????

DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc, DVDR stands for DVD Recordable and DVDRW for DVD ReWriteable. If you're familiar with regular audio/music CDs or regular DVD-Video discs, then you will know what a recordable DVD looks like. A recordable DVD stores up to 2 hours of very good quality DVD-Video, including several audio tracks in formats like stereo, Dolby Digital or DTS and also advanced menu systems, subtitles and still pictures that can be played by many standalone DVD Players and most computer DVD-ROMs. If you choose to lower the video quality it is possible to store several hours video on a recordable DVD using low bitrates and low resolution with video quality more like VHS, SVHS, SVCD, CVD or VCD. It is also possible to have up to 4.37* GB ordinary data or mix DVD-Video and data on a recordable DVD that can be played by most computer DVD-ROMs.

There are three competing DVD Recording standards, DVD-R/DVD-RW and DVD+R/DVD+RW have pretty similiar features and are compatible with many standalone DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs while DVD-RAM has less DVD Player and DVD-ROM compatibility but better recording features.

DVD-R and DVD-RW
DVD-R was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 93% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 80% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R and DVD-RW supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double sided 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by DVDForum.

DVD+R and DVD+RW
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 89% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 79% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R and DVD+RW supports single side 4.37 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 8.75 computer GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).
These formats are supported by the DVD+RW Alliance.

DVD+R DL
DVD+R DL or called DVD+R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD+R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

DVD-R DL
DVD-R DL or called DVD-R9 is a Dual Layer writeable DVD-R. The dual layered discs can hold 7.95 computer GB* (called DVD-9) and dual layered double sides 15.9* computer GB (called dvd-18).

I got this info from http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071016055835AApo5e6

If your dvdrom supports dvdrw I would suggest buying these disks as you can re-write over them if you need too.
Most recent dvdroms support all of the above.
I hope this helps

Freecom Classic DVD problem

I had a similar problem with a Sony External DVD Writer. I updated the firmware and all was right again. If you can identify the model of your drive here ----> http://www.freecom.com/firmware.asp?form1=true&form2=true&serie=12600&Manufactures=12600 ----- Then you can download the firmware, update and you should be set. Hope that helps!
