Once you get the setup disk from virgin and you put your sim into the Bigpond modem, gollow the Virgin prompts it should work once you have searched the right network parameters and entered the IMEI code etc. It takes about 24 hours for virgin to switch you online.

Hi Kurt, If you don't have an ethernet card you will get greyed out, secondly on the BP modem they supply an ethernet cable. (yellow) make sure this is connected to both the Eth. out Port on PC to Eth in on the BP modem.The software is not detecting an wireless ethernet card or a driver for one on your system.The physical connection should assist the software in recognising that you have anetwork card.

Thank you for your prompt reply, but the virgin set up disk comes only with a virgin modem.
I don't want to buy another modem. I wish to use the existing one.
I had the virgin Ibook Mac specialist but he couldn't help me. He referred me to Telstra and they wouln't help because I am using a Virgin sim card.
Many people use unlocked Modems, I must be the only one experiencing problems.
)When clicking on internet connect a sign comes up giving me three choices 1..built in Ethernet 2.Airport. 3. VPN(L2TP)
When cliching on Ethernet it ask for PPPoe service provder but the field is dimmed and the service providors name cannot be entered.
