Hi prune_muffin, my Konica Minolta A1 camera failed during 2007 with those exact symptoms. The sensor used in the A1 and many other cameras/camcorders of that vintage were made by Sony and have been recognised as subject to failure due to an Integrated Circuit packaging failure. Sony bought the KM company and from April 2006 have aranged support for KM products. Sony have generously offered to repair failed cameras of that era, at no charge, when the failure is due to a failed Sony sensor. My camera was repaired by the appointed Australian service company and returned within 3 weeks - I only paid the postage to send it in for repair.
You should make enquiries re your camera problem with the Sony Camera Support Center in your location.

My canon eos 100D wont's show the image on the screen. it will take the picture when looking through the view finder, but i would like it to appear on the screen. pleae help

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon's range of EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time. The design of the SLR camera involves a mirror in front of the sensor. The mirror in its normal position inhibits the image to be captured by the image sensor. When you shoot, the mirror flips up for a split second and back to its rest position.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "Select" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus for you in Live View mode so manual focusing input is required of the photographer.

Mismatch between viewfinder and photograph

Is your camera an SLR, if so then your mirror might be at the wrong angle, if that is the case then you need to have a specialist tilt the mirror, if your camera is not a SLR then this is a common problem when taking pictures from a short distance away from your subject, as the view finder is above the lense so what appears centered in the view inder will be much higher up in the lense, there are two ways to fix this, one is to use the LCD, or most cameras have correction marks in the view finder, and these show where the actual edges of what the lense sees are, use the correction marks.

Hi I have a minolta dimage A1, which has been working fine, but when I know turn it on, the screen, same through the view finder, just flickers, with no image shown, then white bars flicker on and off on...

Hi Anthony

Sounds like your Minolta A1 has a faulty CCD sensor, this is a common problem and you should be able to get it fixed free of charge.

You need to find your local Minolta repair agent, you may have to look for a Sony agent as Sony bought the photographic division of Minolta and are responsible for the continuing support for this product range.

This link will give you some information about the situation

Please note this fault is not specific to Minolta just about every camera maker has had this problem over the past few years

LCD not working

There's a good possibilty that your mode switch is broken. Same thing happened to my Z6. I was able to source replacement switches, and can replace them.

Camera viewing screen greyed out

If this also shows up on the pictures it could be a defective Sony CCD issue. If so, Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so get going! See this link:

The Dimage models that Sony is accepting for the recall repair are:
Dimage 7HI, 7I, A1, Xi, F300, XT, X20, S414.

The captured images cannot be played back.

Check the following: 1. When there are several folders inside DCIM folder in the card, the images can be played back by the unit of folder. Select "View folder" from playback menu. 2. When the folder organization and the folder name are changed, the images may not be played back by the camera. Try it after returning to the initial set. 3. The image files edited or rotated on PC may not be played back. In this case it is impossible to play back the images by the camera.
