I can't remove the door handle.

I have a replacement door handle for the Amana Microwave oven model ACO1860AS but can't remove the old one. I have removed the inside trim of the door and removed the handle screws but it won't come off. Please help.

Solved...After reading other similar posts I came across a diagram on removing the choke cover from the door frame and was able to replace the door handle. Thanks!

This is the diagram that helped me solve the issue.

You have to pull the handle REALLY hard to pop it out. As this and other fix-it websites will tell you, there are only two screws holding the handle to the door (one up, one down). I was afraid to pull harder, thinking I'd pull the door off the hinge or break the door. What I finally decided to do was get a vice grip to pull the handle off with, and that did the job. You do have to *pull hard*! At least I did, and from reading other posts on the internet, other people had this problem also and had to pull really hard. Good luck.

I cannot open the door on my Amana Microwave oven. When I push the door open button in the light comes on but door will not open. I reset the circuit breaker thinking that would help but it didn't. The control panel works but after selecting the program oven doesn't function after hitting the START button. Please help!

I just replaced the door handle on my Amana Radar Range ACO 186OAS and I have some tips to pass along. Removing the door gasket is quite simple... however, finding the second screw (at top and bottom of handle ) is impossioble because it is not there even though the handle indicates there is a hole for two at top and bottom.. The handle will be a liittle difficult to remove due to grease accumulation, etc. If you decide to remove the door, remove the door trim and frame, (it just snaps out) remove the vent/filter held by two screws on top, lift up on hinge area, quite simple...however, removing the door is not a necessary task.

Door handle on Amana Radarange Model MVH100E1 came dissconnected at the bottom of handle. How do I reconnect it since it appears to have been riveted to the door?

I would use epoxy glue allow it to dry 24 hours for maxium bonding, clamp it in place for best results, otherwise the door would probably need to be replaced.

Door Handle broke off on a 20 year old GE spacemaker microwave over oven. It still works well and I would like to fix the broken door handle.

The door handle can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle (if required) usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

NOTE: If you wish to remove the door, all you need to do on most models is open the door all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. You may have to remove the grille cover located above the door on some models to accommodate being able to lift the door.

If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

I got the screws off for the door handle on the ACO1860AS Microwave but the handle will still not come off. Is there another mechanisme or hidden screw that needs to come out?

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

From the service manual:

Door Disassembly

1. Disconnect power to oven and remove oven door,
(see "Door Removal" procedure).

2. Pry away choke cover, by placing a tool in the upper
right corner of the door and gently prying outward on
the choke cover. Continue to work around the door
casing until choke cover is completely loose.

3. Slide latch assembly upward and to the left to
release plastic tabs from door frame. Once latch
assembly is loose the spring may be disconnected
from the door frame.

4. Remove screws securing door handle and door
frame to door panel.

5. Remove door frame by releasing tabs around entire
door panel.

Remove door handle by placing a hand on door panel
next to the top of the door handle. Twist door panel
towards the inside of door and pulling on the top
portion of the door handle in a quick jerking motion.

NOTE: When replacing door handle, the bottom portion
of the door handle must be inserted first.

Handle

For this model the handle is indeed available separately.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Amana Radarange model ACO1860AS- does not work at all

That model would be ACO1860AS-, not AC01860AS by the way. That will make it easier to find info on it.

Chances are the heat from the stove top (when used without having the hood vent exhaust fan on as required) has blown the bottom thermostat/thermistor (called "Thrmst-fix" on the part list) or maybe the oven cavity thermostat.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Your owner's manual includes the installation instructions and can be downloaded here.
