Is the camera on and does it have batteris fully or half way charged?

Hi!
It's most likely a damaged LCD cable which goes through the hinge - happens to many camcorders. You will have to contact your local Sanyo service center. I replace these cables for Sony camcorders every day.

Problem resolved itself, I think the gremlin died. Seriously, as we were still fiddling with everything it suddenly started working again.

This sounds like the same problem my daughter has with her camera (same model). Have sent it away to be repaired and have been told it needs a new MAIN PCB. The total cost is £232.65 !!! We are still looking around to see if we can get it done cheeper !
