I purchased a plextor px-870a dvd/cd writer to replace the cd writer in our computor it is a dell with a dvd player in the top slot and a cd writer in the next slot down but the cd writer stoped working so i got the dvd writer to replace it with I put it in my computor and it wont work you can push the button to open it to put a cd in it and that works but it wont play it I put the cd in the top dvd player and it would not play it eather so I took the dvd writer back out and put the old cd writer that would not play back in and now my dvd player will play my cd what do I need to do to get the dvd writer and the dvd player to work or do i need to put a cd writer in

On the back of a CD-writer or a DVD-writer is a small grid (2 rows) of gold pins.

Each vertical set of pins is labelled: MA(ster), SL(ave), and C(able)S(elect).
Be sure that one drive has a small jumper between the MA pins,
and the other drive has a small jumper between the SL pins.

Was there any software on CD-ROM that came with the DVD-writer,
e.g., software to play DVDs, and software to write CDs and DVDs?
To "play" a DVD, you'll need that software.
To "play" a music CD, Windows Media Player will suffice.

How to install my plextor rewritable drive

Okay.....this one is strange. Check on the back of the DVD Drive. You should see if it has connections on it. if it has two "L" Looking slots, then you will need SATA connectors. If you see a bunch of gold pins lined up in a row of TWO, then you need IDE/ATAPI Cables. You will have to take the side panel off of your desktop and look for the connections on the motherboard. Once you have identified the connections on the motherboard, you will have to install the DVD writer into a blank "Slot" on the upper case of the Desktop. you can go to www.youtube.com for demo videos on how to do this Shannon. And PLEASE do it yourself; you will teach yourself something and it will be fun!!!

try to change or place the jumper sir,
jumper pin can found at the back of your dvd,
it a small pin that can set the master,slave . .

I gotta plextor 712a dvd drive; it does read other media except dvd. blink rate is 2 while color is amber. what should i do as a fix?

Does it read _any_ DVD drive, especially commercially-produced ones?
If not, then it's time to spend $40 to purchase a replacement CD/DVD reader/writer.

Installed new dvd writer PX-870A. The Roxio Creator 10 software that came with it will not complete its installation. After about 2/3rds of it loads a message comes up saying the installation was...

the cd may be bad. try copying the whole cd to a folder and then open the folder and run the setup file. if the cd don't copy then the cd is bad. don't matter if it's new there can be flaw in it.

At first my Plextor PX-760A can read CD, DVD5, and DVD9. But after couple of years, it reads CD and DVD9 not DVD5 anymore

this is called aging effect. different-2 wave lengths are required to read and write different type of disc. these different wavelength rays are emitted by a lense iside every dvd player or drive so as the time passes lense weakens its ability and can not emit the required wavelength to read that type of disc.
so no need to panic either u repair ur dvd drive lense or get it replaced with a new one. hope it willl be helpfull.

My PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A DOESN'T RECOGNIZE CD.

Go to Plextor.com and download the firmware update. If you have the 708A-UF model, make sure you install the firmware update using a USB cable. Using a firewire cable to do the update can cause a data corruption problem with the firmware update.

Hi,

Thanks for coming to FixYa, The problem you have is either a well documented software problem, corrupted plextor software or a failing drive.

Click the below link, then scroll down and click the "Fix It" button. Follow the onscreen instructions, restart when it's done and see if your drive re-appears. If it does, you're done, if it doesn't work then try re-installing the plextor software. Again if that doesn't work then your drive is most likely failed and you should replace it.
