Had trouble booting the computer over time. Sometimes power light would come on and nothing else. By unplugging, waiting 15sec it would power up. Over time this stopped working. Eventually power light would come on but fan would not nor would drives. Switched power supply and same problem. Power light on, nothing else.

Time to look for a new computer. That and take out your hard drive to copy your files over.

Sounds like motherboard problem. Probably not worth repair.

I've got an HP desktop with similar problems. It turned on one day just fine. The next day not. I don't even get the boot up screens. Disconnecting Hard Drive and CD/DVD components do not help. I should at least get some BIOS POST beeps and a Hard Drive Not Found or such. I do not. On occassion it will boot to a blank screen with white cursor in upper left. Most the time no screen at all. On rare occassion it comes right on and boots Windows. I guess it could be the power switch ... but I doubt that.

Try turning off the laptop, unplugging it, pulling out the battery and holding power down for 30-60 seconds. After that's done, put the battery back in, plug it back in, and turn it on.

I installed a new battery into my HP G60 233NR. However sometimes when i power on my computer i get a black screen. Sumtimes after sitting for awhile it will boot. Other times I have to unplug the battery,...

I have a G62 that I've taken apart a couple times to fix issues. Right now the video card has an issue with turning on. I can get it to work by turning the brightness down before I shut it down; it will boot normally usually. If not, I can flip the screen open and closed a few times and it will finally get going. It's a backlight powerup problem that I haven't the patience to sort out. The battery has nothing to do with it, except it diddles the voltage a bit and might get the display working. I can't see the bootup screen, though; if I want to change anything, I have to connect an external monitor.

I usually blow the dust out of it with an air compressor every few months (I use it rarely). Otherwise the heat sink and fan cruds up with dirt and overheats.

I like the PC even though it's 6 years old. It runs all distros of Linux nicely. Mint, openSuSE, Ubuntu, Bodhi, Puppy, Manjaro.

Is this the initial set-up of the network? Sometimes it just needs to be rebooted a few times to connect. The way to reboot the network is to turn off the computers, then unplug the router, next unplug the modem. wait about 30/60 seconds then plug in the power to the modem. Wait for the modem to fully boot. Wait a minute or two, then plug in the power to the router. Wait till it has booted, another minute or two. Once the router is fully booted, then turn on the pc and check to see if it connects. If the computer was previously connected to the modem, before the router was incorporated, it still has the ip address assigned by the modem and has trouble releasing it and getting an ip address from the router.
