Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F707 ...No flash.

Flash will not pop up on any flash setting. Everything else works. Battery is fully charged. Flash just stopped working after 5 years of trouble-free use.

I'm having the same problem.... I love my camera, and no matter what flash setting I use I can't seem to get the flash to pop up. I noticed this just last week I'd really like to get this fixed - better then trying to get a new camera.

I have the same problem as well.....I noticed in the multi-picture mode (where you can view multi prints at a time), where it also shows the iso, and many others that the flash is actually turned off! But can't get it to switch back on........tried removing battery, reseting, playing with all the settings, and increasing the snap time. NOTHING worked........very interested in a solution.

Same problem for me. The flash won't pop-up anymore, even when I select the forced flash.

Mine started to do that too. I charged the battery and then played with it taking the battery out and placing it back in and it just started to work again. Try placing it in manual mode as in shutter or appeture, rather that automatic and see if it makes a difference. These are things i played with before it started to work again.

If you are having a memory stick problem this is what i did and if fixed a lexmar 256 (2X128) stick. I used a card reader so that is came up in MyComputer as a drive. I then right clicked on it and hit format. When it ask me if I wanted to format it I had to change the configuration from 32 to 16. That is important if you do not change that parameter it will not work. Then hit format and it should start working. This will probaly work on anything 128 meg or smaller. I don't have anything larger that that. Good luck.

Did this actually fix the flash or is this a separate issue?

How do i use the flash on the Sony Cyber-Shot

on many sony models such as the dsc f707 and f717 and probably on your model as well ... sony uses a special flash that actually flashes twice .. it does it so fast that it looks like one flash .. the first flash sets up the metering.. the second takes the picture .. so if you try to use a standard flash you will get a dark image since they only flash once .. so you have to use a special flash attachment that is capable of double flashing .. sony, of course, makes them (HVL-F1000) and some outside suppliers as well .. sony calls it "intelligent flash"

here is a low cost "auto slave" flash for your camera:
http://www.amazon.com/Cybershot-DSC-F505V-Complimentary-Super-Deal/dp/B002LCTXG2

you dont have to hook this one up .. it uses the normal camera flash to trigger itself .. so you can move it around to get lighting effects or mount it on the camera to augment the normal flash

if you just want to use the internal flash (good to 8 feet) then here is some info ....

My DSC-F707 won't record images.

Sounds like the CCD has developed a fault. I had a F717 which had similar faults but this turned out to be a batch of faulty CCD's which I know the F707 shared. This maybe why Sony are not keen to get involved as it will cost them money. JVC had a similar problem with some of it's Camcorders using a similar CCD and they replaced them FOC even those well out of warranty. Keep trying with Sony and mention the CCD and serial number of the F707 and see if it is one of the faulty batch.

Flash doesn't work on my F707

I hate to take you for an idiot but does the screen display the lightning icon or anything in the top left corner? If the lightning is in a circle it means its off.
