SOURCE: Windows not Recognizing COBY MP705-8G

Make sure you have plugged your Coby MP3 player into a USB 2.0 port. The Coby does not support the USB 1.0 standard. If you are getting an error that "This device can perform faster..." your port is an older USB type. I have both types on my computer and the Coby would not install until I plugged it into my 2.0 port.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: i have a frozen Coby MP610 8G how do i fix it?

Here are instructions for a solution to your frozen Coby 610 problem.

Replacing the firmware of your Coby 610 MP3 Player will unfreeze it and help it act normally again. This will also fix the 'File System Error' that has been popping up with some Coby 610 players. You can find it at the cobyusa.com website by choosing 'Mp3 & Portable', then 'Mp3 & Mp4 Players', then your model 'MP610', from the support page. Or, here is the direct link to the file from Coby's servers.

da1c744.jpg

Unpacking the zipfile from the Coby Website will give you a PDF file with instructions, and a program file to run.

Your music will be erased when you run this firmware update. The instructions suggest that even if your mp3 player won't startup properly, if you plug it into your computer you should be able to access it as a removable disk, and copy all your music to a temporary folder on your computer.

Here are the steps:

  1. Plug your MP610 into your computer.
  2. Copy all your music to a temporary folder.
  3. Disconnect your MP610 from your computer.
  4. Disconnect as many USB devices as possible from your computer (to simplify identifying the MP610 at a later step, and avoid damaging other devices by trying to load the MP610 firmware into them by mistake.)
  5. Run the Firmware Update program 'MP610 T LCD Firmware Update for file sys err.exe'
  6. You will see a screen with up to 24 numbered, empty boxes.
  7. Connect the MP610 to your computer. It will show up in one of the boxes.
  8. Once the MP3 player shows up, click on the Firmware Feature icon to start the firmware upgrade.
  9. After the firmware update is complete, you will receive a checkmark in the firmware box.
  10. Disconnect the MP610.
  11. Close the firmware update software.
  12. Turn on the 610 to confirm it starts up and the display reads 'COBY'.
  13. Plug it back into your computer and copy your music back on to it.

I have a Coby MP620. It says to drag and drop files to the music.dir folder but I have no such folder. I have the movie, photo and text files but no music. I have no idea what to do next.

When your MP3 Player is connected to a computer, you may transfer music files to your MP3 player using your operating system's basic file management commands (i.e., copy-and-paste or drag-and-drop).Connect the Coby MP3 player to your computer through its USB adapter. Select "Open folder to view files" from the new device dialog box that pops up. If the new device dialog does not appear upon the hardware's connection, click "Start," click "My Computer" and right-click the Coby MP3 player's device icon in Windows Explorer .Click "Start," click "My Music" and open the folder containing the music you wish to transfer onto the Coby MP3 player. Drag and drop the music files or folders into the Coby MP3 player's open directory. Alternatively, you can highlight the music files or folders and click the "Copy the selected" link from the Files and Folders Tasks menu in the left column. Select the "Removable Disk" drive from the list of destinations.

My Sansa Fuze says it does not have any space left.. yet there is nothing on it! I cannot transfer anything. Any idea what is going on?

Try to format it in Fat 32 format. Plug it into computer and select " Open folder to view all files" Then go to My computer/Computer (depending on what windows your using) Right click on the drive your unit is showing in and select format. Do a full format and make sure the FAT 32 option is selected.

What ever i push in the main menu, it says file sys err

It sounds like something has become corrupted in the main files. If you have all your photos, music and videos STILL on your computer - YOU DID SOMETHING RIGHT!

STEP ONE:

In order to not loose the Coby MANAGER FOLDER

1. Go into "My Computer" Coby will show up under "Removable Drive/ Storage"
2. Double Click the icon to open the Coby player.
3. Save ALL the system folders to a folder you create on your desktop.
(You might want to save everything including your music, movies and photos also! That makes it easier to restore them later.)
A. Right Click and Hold the Mouse on each folder -
B. Drag to the desktop folder you created
C. Release the mouse button
D. Select "COPY HERE" on the pop-up screen
E. Double check that your properties for the desktop folder is the same size, # of folders and # of files - as the ones on the player.
1. Go to EDIT /Select ALL in folder
2. Go to FILE /Properties
3. Choose "Properties"

If the same size, # of folders, # of files are both on your computer and in the player, Close out all opened folders (that you're using to view the contents of the player)
F. Disconnect the player from the computer using the Coby Manager or Safely Remove Hardware.

STEP TWO:

1. Go into Coby Manager the program is still on your computer unless you've changed computers or computer drives. (See Below STEP THREE)
2. Go to Device Tab
3. Make sure the Coby Player is TURNED OFF ! ! !
3. Attach player to Computer
4. It will show up in the Device Tab of Coby Manager
5. In the lower right hand corner you will see a button "FORMAT"
a. Take a deep breath, gently click on format, squeeze eyes tightly shut... Pray LOUDLY NO WAIT!!! That's not right... I digress...
a. Click on FORMAT
b. Let the program re-format the drive -

THIS WILL MAKE YOU LOOSE
ALL INFORMATION ON THE PLAYER ! ! !

That's why you COPIED all the information above to your computer, right???

STEP THREE:

The player will now be re-formatted, and will no longer have the Coby Manager PROGRAM on the PLAYER. You can download a new copy from here:

CobyMedia Manager fix for MP822 (Windows XP/2000/Vista)

(But, you DID save it in the first steps, didn't you??) You will need it if you change computers, or computer drives...

6. Start re-synchronizing your music, movies, photos to your player. You can use the folders you originally used under the "Music" Tab, "Movies" Tab and "Photo" TABs.

OR

You can use the folders from the folder you created in STEP ONE.

ENJOY!

How do I download music on it from itunes

Go to your I-Tunes folder, and you can select which MP3 files to put on your Coby player. If all of your songs are in the M4A I-Tune format you can get a FREE program to change them to mp3 from here:

http://www.magicvideo.net/m4a-to-mp3/

I use music in the *.mp3 format at 128mbs

1. I put all movies (avi or wmv), music (MP3s), photos (160x128pixels - jpg) or audiobooks in it's own folder (on my computer) in a folder called "FOR COBY"

2. Open the COBY Manager
If you've had to re-format the player (which is a great way to get all previous stuff off it), you can get the Coby Manager from here:

CobyMedia Manager fix for MP822 (Windows XP/2000/Vista)

Don't let it throw you that it says it's for the MP822 - it also works great for the MP610

3. Plug your COBY player (THAT IS TURNED OFF) into the USB port - it will show up in the "DEVICE" tab

4. Click on the "Music" tab.

5. You can get the music into the folder one of three ways

a. Drag and drop from your COBY FOLDER/MUSIC FOLDER to the blank/empty space in the Coby Manager Music Page OR

b. Use the "SEARCH" icon (7th icon from the left - looks like a magnifying glass.)

c. Go to: My Documents/ My Music/ ITunes/ Music/
Then start looking in the folders for individual songs or select an entire folder - drag an drop onto a blank area of the Coby Manager Music Page. (If you put a music folder on the player, it will keep the songs in the order that they are in the folder.)

6. Right Click on a song, select "Synchronize" when it's done you will see a closed lock in the Status column

7. From COBY Manager,
a. CLICK "DEVICE" tab
b. Click on Music folder - there it is....

8. Go back to the MUSIC Tab. To get ALL the new songs in this tab to synch with the player:
a. Click on EDIT
b. Click on SELECT ALL
c. You will want to unselect the first song you synched (so it won't be highlighted in orange)
d. Right click on any orange highlighted song and select "Synchronize"
e. This will take awhile especially if you add 1300 songs at a time!
f. When it is done, all the music that has been added to you player will have a closed lock icon under the STATUS column.
g. Go to the DEVICE tab page and they will all be listed under the music folder.

Use the DEVICE Tab Page to EJECT the Coby player.

1. It will have a pop-up screen to ask "Do you want to eject?" Click YES.
2. The second pop-up screen will tell you "The device can now be safely removed from the system.

The Coby will now show "Please Wait..." in the screen.

It will take the Coby about 10 minutes on the Please Wait and then to UPDATE the Library - Be PATIENT
ENJOY!
