The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

I got the same error message (after the camera was dropped). A couple of hard taps with my fingers (not too hard) seemed to fix the problem.

With the suggestions of several posters and after changing batteries, blowing air around the stepped lens, brushing with a dry toothbrush, the lens finally extended. One poster suggested holding on to the lens gently and just barely twisting it back and forth a tiny bit to seat the pins. You can feel them catching. It seems to be a total fix. Have not had a lens error warning again but I will certainly have many things to try if I do. Thank you all so much.

I find on my SX1 IS that I'll get the lens error if I switch it on with the lens pointing upwards or maybe even horizontal. Point the camera down when switching on and it'll work fine at any angle afterwards. Don't ask why, but it works for me and my camera, and I just put it down to a quirk of the motor drive. For this problem, it should be professionally serviced. You can have it serviced at this place: www.camerasandparts.com They look after the Canon Powershots only and the work through them is superb. They are not expensive at all. If you have a Canon with a lens error, they'd be the place. That's where a lot of people go for help with the Powershots. Good luck with it.

  • Charles Collins Apr 19, 2013

Are you crazy? These people want $99 to fix this. Most of these cameras are not worth $50.

  • Canon_Help_03
    Canon_Help_03 Oct 22, 2014

Look at the model and the cost. If your model isn't worth the cost, don't get it looked after. If it is worth more than what they charge, it probably makes sense to look after it. They are about the most affordable for service on the Canons that we know of and their work is excellent. If it's not cost effective for your model though then it might not make sense. Many of the models are worth fixing though, it's depending on the age and how much you like the camera.

One of the common reasons for this problem is dust partials which stacked in your camera lens motor. It's bit hard to sort out if this is the case.

Lens error, restart camera.

I had the same problem with my powershot and with the batteries going bad super fast. The way to fix it is to empty your memory card of all pictures then put it back in the camera blank. That should take care of the problem and should pro;long your battery life as well.

First of all, make sure your batteries are fully charged.
If it's still stuck, you could try hold the lens with two fingers, and when you turn the camera on, you **** the lens around just a little bit. Do not use a lot of force, just slightly **** it around. That might unfreeze it.
If that won't help, I'm afraid you're going to have to bring it to a camera workshop.

Canon digital IXUS 60. Lens does not move in and out. Camera turns on but nothing happens. Unable to take photographs. Error message:- Lens error restart camera. Restarting camera does not resolve problem

I'm guessing that the lens is stuck. Either the cover refuses to open because something is wedged in or a mechanical malfunction. The camera won't work if the lens does not come out a bit. Take a look at the lens and examine why the cover doesn't open up. If it is a mechanical malfunction (meaning internal problem), might as well have it fixed. Be careful and keep your fingers off the lens. You may touch the cover but hands off the lens. Hope this helps.

It sounds like. You really need to have some one take it apart and clean the sand out of it. The camera will make those noises when the sand gets between the gears of the lens assembly and they cant connect correctly.

ou could try helping the lens go back in GENTLY. But thats risky and you could ruin a lens that would work just fine if it where cleaned out.

let me know which model and brand you have and I could tell you better whether or not you should try anything your self.

Lens Error, Restart

Hi

What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.

Your lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

Fixya rules prevent me from giving you a link to anything off Fixya that would help you fix your camera.

Good luck from....
