The presser bar used to snap down promptly when engaged - now it rather floats down very slowly as though on some kind of hydraulic resistance and it does not seem to grip fully once down.
This is an issue I have as well after the level was initially stuck. I had to disengage the secondary presser foot which wasn't easy. So now mine floats, too, and I couldn't get the foot to snap on to the mecanism without hand assistance. The presser foot won't lock down and hold the fabric securely enough to hold the fabric for sewing.
Hi, the presser foot bar needs cleaning and oiling. Open the cover over it if you can or just go at it from the bottom. It may be best to clean it with something with kerosene such as liquid Wrench from your local hardware store or a gun barrel cleaning solvent. Then a clear sewing machine oil and exercize it good until it starts snapping down again.
