A super star will only put out around 28 to 30 watts, any more you need a linear, you could have you r swr checked to make sure your antenna is good, any good antenna should talk around 10 miles

SOURCE: How do I hook up a amp to a Superstar 121 cb radio

first if must be adjusted for deadkey to be lowered down from 1-4watts as not to hurt the amplifier, then connect a small jumper to the amp, run heavy gauge wires to a good power source hopefully the battery.. just use a relay to switch on/off w/key/stereo circuit to turn main power off the the amp. if need too. Also the SWR's must be low have them checked. Free @ any Good Radio Shop.

SOURCE: superstar 121 has only 50%

Some people say cut off or jump the mod regulator on the circuit board. It would be better to get the specs on the circuit and using a small to screw driver (with power off) to turn it up counter clockwise all the way. It is factory set at 50 to 90% modulation. I would not turn it up all the way unless the radio has a mic power output adjustment on the panel. This way if you go "over mod" you can cut back the power. Many "S" meters will also show modulation so you can see if it is too high (into the red). Check for response to modulation before starting to see if it reads modulation. Afterwords to check, key the mic without making any sounds and see where the meter sits. Then whistle into the mic to see the meter moves up. If nothing happens it could be: 1) the "S" meter does not show modulation, or 2) you turned the adjustment in the wrong direction. If no one answers your calls it would be #2.

Superstar 121 with astatic power mic and texas star dx 500 power..when I key up to talk they say I sound like I'm a ways from the mic, but I have a loud roger beep...any ideas....mic?...

try a stock mike or a noise canceling one. Hard to run power on top of power. And see what your radio is dead keying into the radio...usally with a 500 it can take up to a 6 watt dead key.

hi when you try to connect power to radio does it keep blowing fuses ,iff so remove the bottom panel/cover from the radio at the back of the radio where the power terminals enter the board you will see a black diode with a silver strip this is what we call a reversed or dummy diode remove this and your radio should work ok make sure to replace with new one you can find these in most cb radios goodlyck
