Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

If you receive the “unmountable boot volume” error and have an installation disk, you still have a chance to save your system.
1. Insert your XP installation disk into an optical drive and boot up your computer.
2. When you see a welcome screen, hit the R key on your keyboard. This will enter you into recovery mode with a DOS prompt.
3. Now type chkdsk /p and hit Enter. This will launch a utility which will check for errors on your hard drive.
4. After the process is done, type fixboot and hit Enter to repair any damaged boot files which may have become corrupted. When asked to say yes or no, type the Y key on your keyboard.
5. Type exit and press the Enter key to reboot your computer.

If all went well, you should now be able to boot back into Windows without a problem!

Good luck!

How do i reboot my recovery partition from a aspire 3690

Hi
If you have the option to save anything like files and photo's stored on your hard drive you should do this before you attempt a recovery because you will loose all files it will format your hard drive
back to when you bought it

Normally when you hit the power key you also tap the ALT+ F10 key a few times until it gets you
into the acer recovery manager and when asked for a password try 000000 thats is ( 6 zero's ) and follow the on screen instructions

if the F10 option dont work

then restar laptop and tap the F2 key to get you into bios and go over to about the 3rd of 4th option
and make sure that the D2D is enabled if it is not then click on it and change to enable
then click F10 to save and exit

then go back and try the ALT+F10 keys again

UNMOUNTABLE DISK VOLUME Message on ACER Aspire One.

Unmountable boot volume is most likely an indication of a failing hard drive. Boot to your Windows CD and run CHKDSK /R and see if issue resolves. If it doesn't then you are probably replacing the hard drive.

Acer aspire 3690 bios reset

Underneath the ram (remove ram) is a jumper marked J3
short this out for a couple of seconds.

This will reset bios right back.

Boot and go straight to bios (F2) and set your options as needed there.

Eg date, time, drives, and any other options the bios needs to be able to boot the machine. When you have done make sure you SAVE then exit which will re-boot.

If you didnt mess any bios settings you should be back in business

My acer aspire one, have en error realtek, somting about ethernet. then the windows don't go up. so start with the screen that said windows, and quickly appear a blue screen with a message unmountable...

If it be the connector cable problem then replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable.
If it's a BIOS settings problem then load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

If it's a damaged file system case then:-
1.Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.

2.When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

3.If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.

4.When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.

5.At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r , and then press ENTER.

6.At the command prompt, type exit , and then press ENTER to restart your computer.

This takes a bit longer, but the system should boot back into Windows.

What function keys do i press on startup to re insatll the operating system on my acer aspire 3690

you can use the recovery disk which came along with the laptop to reinstall the OS. There is no function key to start the installation automatically, there is a backup / restore button in some laptops which can reset the OS. Check the manual for any such button on your laptop.

Locked out of my laptop forgot my users password

I have the same computer and I done the very same thing. Do you have the recovery disks that it came with? If so you need to take a paper clip and open the drive by pushing the paper clip the small hole in the cd drive door.... If you cant get the drive door to open. Try running your disks from 1-7. This should at least get you to the BIOS. Set your Boot order to where the 1st line says from CD drive. Then you should be good to go to factory settings.

If that does not work if you have a 98, Ultiamte Boot Utility, Vista Bootable CD, They can boot your system and format your hard drive whatever you want to do. You will lose all your data but at least you will be able to use it.
