We have a Stoves dishwasher 450DW showing falt E4 overfilled but there is no water to be seen and no explanation how to clear the fault can you help?

I believe the washer has had a flood type situation.there is normally a flood switch in the very bottom of the dishwasher right at the very floor,if water get into the bottom tray it floats a piece polystyrene foam wich triggers a little micro switch wich will run the pump continually & show Overfilling fault at the same time..The water in the tray needs to be mopped out with a rag or spunge so that the styrene foam can drop back down.The blockage you had may have caused this flood situation some how.The overfill fault was probably due to the washer not pumping out,So that may be ok now that you have cleared the blockage.hope this helped.

Hi, when a dishwasher goes into overfill mode it usually means that the bottom tray has water in it that operates a float connected to a microswitch. Open the bottom panel and soak up all water then check to make sure the float is down completely.then restart dishwasher. Why it has overfilled is another problem. It could be a faulty pressure switch,pressure switch hose may have a hole in it, water valve may be faulty. Too much soap or wrong soap can cause too many suds and hence overfill.Also if rinse aid is spilt when filling. Or seals leaking. etc.

E4 is an overfill code caused by water pressure problem.

On the base of the unit - (underneath the kitchen plinth) there are 2 black plastic clip panels - each these of with a blunt knife or screw driver and turn off the appliance at the mains. In there you will see lots of wiring etc. Simply get a dish cloth and mop up any water that is in there, particularly at the back left as that is where the sensor that detects the over flow is. Its simply a rubber valve that is boyent and so lifts when water is present. then once most of the water is removed, turn on.The problem would be solved.

TO PREVENT THIS HAPPENING - when you take off the kitchen plinth you will see 2 small clear pipes in the centre - between the 2 plastic panels. These are cable tied. Simple cut the cable tie and feed the pipes out of the dishwasher - place a bowl under tehre if you whish. This will prevent overfloww water enterin the base. BE WARNED BY DOING THIS THE DISHWASHER WILL NOT HAVE ANY OVERFLOW PROTECTION CAUSING POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO KITCHEN AND APPLIANCE. My advice would be to leave it in place but try to prevent overflow - i.e rinse plates first or try a different brand of wash tablets. If it does happen then the fix is simple and you definately do not have to remove the unit as many people imply.

E4 means overfilled which in practice means there is water in the tray at the bottom of the machine. Lean the machine forwards and the water will drain out and clear the fault code. chances are it will fill up again so if it repeats the leak will need to be found.

i made sure drain hose was not blocked found gunk at bottum , but to reset alarm e4 , had to drain dishwasher put it on its side - must have remove an airlock. checked turn on and e4 had gone , all ok now suggest rinse all dishes before washing

e4 code means the machine is showing a fault code for overfill,tip the machinee to a 45 degree angle and get excess water out should run ok after that

I have a Kenwood Kdw8st2a and have been constantly plagued by the E4 overfill error.

Lifting the front of the dishwasher and tilting it backwards seemed to clear the E4 error only for it to come back after the next wash.

I found eventually that the connection to the U bend under the sink was too narrow and was almost blocked hence the dishwasher was not emptying properly.

I disconnected the dishwasher waste pipe and ran the waste into a bucket for about 6 cycles and it worked fine.

Eventually drilled through the kitchen wall and fitted a lower direct waste pipe to the drain. Overkill maybe buit it hasn't done an E4 since.

I had E4. Initially couldn't get it to clear.

In desperation, switched it off, turned it on it side and drained it onto the floor.

The E4 disappeared and the dishwasher is working normally.
